The farmhouse is located 330 kilometres north of Stockholm in the small village of Jättendal set in an open cultural landscape. The house is quite close to the lake with a bathingplace and to the sea, the Gulf of Bothnia, it is a 10 minute drive. Walk in the woods is just minutes away and along the coast and in the county there are much to discover and enjoy. The closest well equipped foodstore is 7 km away in Harmånger and the closest and cosy city Hudiksvall is 34 km away. In addition you find the big city Sundsvall on 55 km distance. There is a touristoffice in the village of Jättendal.
Some examples of places to discover and things to do:
Mellanfjärden (5 km away) is a vibrant fishing village situated on the coast of Hälsingland, between Sundsvall and Hudiksvall in central Sweden. The heart of the village is the square alongside the port, where there is a restaurant, a theatre, summer shops, an art gallery, a fish shop and a guest harbour.
Sörfjärden (14 km away) has a wonderful 2 km long beach for you to enjoy. There are also several other nice beaches in the surrounding in and between the picturesque fishing villages. In Sörfjärden you also find the restaurant "En liten sjökrog" that has a place in The White Guide.
Trolska Skogen close to Mellanfjärden. Every summer there is a new sago adventure for the whole family. Here you can experience the story on your own at your own pace. Windy trails take you to fairies, brownies and straight into the troll's dwelling. Opening times for 2019 not released yet but usually from last week in June to mid-August.
Gränsfors (19 km away) A vibrant culture of craft and industry has thrived here for hundreds of years. Mills, stove-builders, breweries, sawmills, forges and much more have been in operation along the river at one time or another. Two of these fine craft-based industries still remain in full operation: Gränsfors Bruk makes its quality axes and Gränsfors Blomkruksfabrik makes superb flowerpots. There is an axe museum and most of the time you are able to visit the production of the axe which is very interesting.
Galtströms Bruk (32 km away) Galtström was once the county´s first, largest and last ironworks, on the beautiful coast just south of Sundsvall. A visit to Galtström is like a journey in time. Here you can experience the wings of history in a wonderful setting, take a steam trip, stroll in nature or take a dip in the sea from rocks and sandy beaches. There is a playground, exciting ruins and it is also very child friendly. There are guided tours on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer.
Ersk-Matsgården (51 km away) in Hassela is one of the few "living" farms in the project "Hälsingegårdar". Here you will see how you lived in the mid 1800's and hear the story of when the first Finns settled down here in 1598.
Also Nature awaits you! Everything within 40 km: Mileswide view from high mountains. The forests. Old nice trails. Mires. Berries and mushrooms. Elk, deer, foxes, beavers. Diversity of lakes and ponds, streams and rivers. Fish. An open cultural landscape. Birds, butterflies and plants. The calmness, the silence. The beaches and the sea's shiny white surface or its stormy mowing waves. There is a wonderful nature and it is close to nature experiences if you like. Much to discover, experience and explore.
Bathing and swimming. In the county there are many beautiful bathing areas for which the municipality is responsible, and they are often managed by ideally working associations. You can go either to the different lakes or go to the sea.
Hiking. The coastal trail goes along roads and paths through old fishing villages, small villages, beautiful woodland with rich flora and fauna, ancient remains and fine sandy beaches. In some places you can choose between different stretches, which also allows you to walk in a loop and get back to the starting point without having to go back the same route. The terrain is relatively easy, but there are wet or rocky areas in some places. The conductor's mark color is orange.
Canoeing. Make an exciting excursion in nature, paddle and land ashore. At Kustleden Turism in Strömsbruk or at the Adventure Masters in Hassela you can rent canoes and go out on adventure.
Fishing. In the area there are many beautiful fishing waters where you can fish sea trout, gos, trout, rainbow, harr, pike, perch and more. There are fishing waters for many different types of sports taking place in lakes, streams, small ponds and flowing waters. You buy the card for fishing permission at the Tourist Office in Jättendal.
Golfing: Golf course in Sörfjärden with 18 hole course with mixed forest and park character, partly hilly. Modern driving range. Open May-October. The greenfee is about 35-40 euros per day in high season depending on day. Nine hole is half the price. Restaurant with full rights. Golf shop, car rental, golf cars and sale of golf accessories. At the track is one of Norrland's largest beaches.
Eating. Old food traditions inspired by modern cuisine are what you find at the restaurants and cafés in the county. Everything from home-made home cooking as fried herring to special offers with local extensions. Fresh fish is served from the coast and is served and sold. The honey cheese cake can taste a little different depending on the place in which it is baked and you can also taste other local specialities. Of course there are also pizzerias and thai food restaurants. You can find both of these in Harmånger (7 km away). You can also experience great italian food in an old Hälsingefarm at Frägsta (46 km away). We will of course guide you to the alternatives in the county if you have a special food interest.
Shopping.
Flea shopping. During summer there are fleas popping up and while driving around you will see the homemade signs of "LOPPIS" and it is easy to stop and have a look. In Bjuråker (54 km away) you have the areas biggest fleamarket and if you are a flea fan this is definetely worth a visist. They reopen every year and are ususally open from late May to mid-August. They also have a cafeteria. This trip is good to combine with a stop for a bath at the beautiful lakes of Dellen with the mountains as backdrop.
Ordinary shopping. Hudiksvall (34 km away) is a smaller city with a very friendly atmosphere where you can spend a day just strolling around. Walking down the main street, visiting some shops, having an icecream by the well preserved boathouses and experience the country's most unique totality of low-rise wooden houses from the 1700s-18th century, which together form a central cultural-historical district called Fiskarstan.
Sundsvall (55 km away) is much bigger and has everything a big city are able to deliver with also a big shoppingmall, Birsta shopping, IKEA included, just outside the city.
