Looking for a true getaway that reminds you of the vacations you took when you were a kid? Big Sand is one of the areas premier fishing and recreational lakes. 1800 acre lake with 35 foot water clarity, hard pack sand bottom, gradual slope out and no weeds!! Fantastic swimming off the end of the dock. The cabin is a rustic two bedroom with a deck and lakeside fire pit. Beautiful setting among towering white and red pines, right on the water, with a rustic fire pit overlooking a natural rocky shoreline. This cabin faces west for the best sunset views in Hubbard County. There are no hard-wired phones. The cabin is not handicap accessible, and people with mobility issues will find the steps difficult. There are 35 stone steps down to cabin and waters edge. The cabin is part of an old resort, so there are nearby neighbors and we kindly ask that you respect their privacy if they happen to be in residence.

As usual, the stay was great!!! Fishing good for the Weather Conditions, but Jim has no control over that! It was a very relaxing trip this year! Thanks Jim

My stay at Jim‘s cabin was absolutely lovely. The location is perfect, deep in the woods, right on the edge of Big Sand Lake and very secluded and peaceful. Jim was diligent and made sure I had no problems with check in. He even left s’mores as a welcome gift which was very thoughtful. I was there on a very hot week and the AC came in handy. Would highly recommend!

A very nice, clean, little cabin that sits right next to the lake! The thoughtful owners made check-in easy, and left us a smores making pkg! :) Another cabin close by, but the owners weren't there, so it was very quiet and peaceful! It sits on the windy side of the lake (or at least while we were there) with a rocky shore. There are numerous, uneven steps down to the cabin which can be a challenge. But really, a wonderful stay!!

Jim is the best!!!! His place is the best!!! Beautiful setting, great access to the lake and the Loons are awesome to fall asleep to.

Very clean, everything you need, private fire pit, great stargazing, nice canoe. Perfect cabin for 2 couples to get away.

Looking for more than lazy days on the lake? The town of Dorset (self proclaimed restaurant capital of the world) is 3 miles away and is known for it's many fine restaurants and also has access to the 49 mile Heartland Bike Trail. You are also within 25 minutes of Itasca State Park (Headwaters of the Mississippi River), and close to several quality golf courses (Headwaters Country Club, BlueBerry Pines, and many others). Park Rapids is a short 10 minute drive, where you will find shopping, a bowling alley, restaurants and a movie theater. There are also 3 live theaters nearby. Walker, with it's charming sidewalk shopping and casino is only 23 miles away.

Hi, we're Jim and Shari Emerrson. Jim is from Iowa and began vacationing on Big Sand Lake in the mid 60's when he was six years old, and was fortunate enough to buy a cabin there in 1994. Shari is from Park Rapids and we met for the first time at the cabins, and ultimately got married there. This is our personal cabin and we have spent many summers enloying the beauty of Big Sand Lake. We hope that you enjoy it as much as we do!
