This is the second time we've stayed at no.13 - so what drew us back? Crovie is quite a unique spot and we're delighted to have found it - 5 days of peace, quiet and relaxation. No. 13 itself is one of the few whose door opens onto the front and so you can sit inside or just outside the door and soak in the views. The cottage is compact but has everything you need for a self catering stay, the kitchen's a complete bonus and is excellently equipped. It's a short walk to Gardenstown for supplies from the local shop or lunch, coffee & cake at Eli's or dinner at The Garden Arms - both dog friendly, just advise the Garden Arms before. The North East coastline has lots to offer, Pennan, Duff House, Macduff Aquarium, Cullen, Portsoy, The Bowfiddle Rock and more, you'll not run out of options. Hamish himself is a great host, gave us all the information we needed ahead of time and then checked in during and after our stay to see everything was ok. Certainly was Hamish, can we come back again?

Hamish's place was even better than the photos! Crovie is so special & unique being right on the North Sea with only a footpath in front of you- no cars! Because it's a preserved village all Crovie cottages are rustic and small but Hamish's is one of the larger ones (and Ive stayed at a few). The kitchen was fairly spacious and the main bedroom was comfortable & cozy. Crovie isn't luxe living but Hamish's place was a peaceful, authentic cottage perfect for exploring the area or just relaxing.

A lovely, quirky little spot in a wonderfully unique old village, with the water lapping right outside the front door. The atmosphere in Crovie is unique and the locals are friendly and welcoming. The scenery stunning and the wildlife is bountiful. Even spotted a few dolphins in the bay whilst drinking my coffee in the morning. Hamish, the owner, was very helpful. Would definitely stay again.

Crovie is a delightful little village set literally on the water’s edge and the surrounding area is also fantastic with small villages and wonderful beaches. The sea surrounding is crystal clear with fish, crab, and jellyfish all on view, as well as the local bird life (Cormorant's seen diving, and even a Puffin). There is plenty to see and do for all the family. My twin girls (7yrs old) especially enjoyed hunting for crabs in the rock pools at low tide. However… You may want to look at the other options for your stay. The area is fantastic, there is plenty to see and do and the cottage is in a great location, however the owner left us with a sour note to the end of our stay. So, I will try and be frank with my review. In general the cottage was comfortable and serviceable. The good stuff… Location, location, location. The WiFi is excellent so the kids can still watch there shows at the end of a long day. The cottage is a quirky layout which does add to the charm, being a converted fishing house, but if you’re above 5" be wary of low doors and lower ceilings (upstairs). The not so good stuff…. The décor and furnishings are dated and in much need of a revamp. The master bed is in dire need of a new mattress, you could feel every spring as they jostled to poke you through the night. The upstairs singles were marginally better but probably coming to the end of their normal lifespan. The electricity is metered so you will need to stock up on a few £1 coins. The advert states towels are provided, yet 2 regular and 1 small are not enough for a family of 5 so maybe bring extra. As I said though, we won’t be back to this cottage. Being accused of being the ‘dirtiest occupants’ he has hosted in the last 10yrs soured our experience. Were a family of 5, distinctly average when it comes to cleanliness but certainly not the slobs we were made out to be by the cleaner. We obviously fell short of there exacting standards. To conclude, area is fantastic and I highly recommend it and we will certainly be back, but we won’t be back to this cottage (I doubt Hamish would even allow us back).

Exceptional location and comfortable cottage with stunning views and plenty of walks all around. Bring lots of pound coins.
