This review is for MACKIE's PLACE Unit A. We were supposed to stay there for 2 weeks, and then move to this unit for 2 weeks, but their other renter decided to extend so we remained in Unit A for the whole period. I didn't want to leave this review until we were gone. That said, the Mackie's are very nice people and very accommodating in most areas, but others didn't seem to be important so they were ignored. They picked us up and dropped us off at the airport, and arranged for a motorcycle rental for the duration, and for those things we are very appreciative. They also sent someone over the 'fix' some of the problems that we had. The reason I say 'fix' is because one of the items was a broken light fixture and he simply took down the broken glass but left the bare lights in place. The other item was an outlet that pulled out of the wall and it was put back in. Overall, it was all sufficient (barely) but I feel there are a lot of misleading items or other things that could have been done much better that would have warranted a better review. So, for the sake of future customers, please be aware of the following items: 1.) I really don't know how long it's been since someone stayed there, but it doesn't look like the place has been cleaned in years. There are spiderwebs on the shelves and on the walls/ceiling, lizard poop on the microwave and kitchen walls, and the microwave was crusted over with splatters. We also ended up buying some bug spray for the cockroaches in the kitchen and some weird huge maggots we found in the bathroom. 2.) Regular maintenance is needed. Broken light fixtures, molding coming off the walls, cracks in walls, stairs coming apart (tile backing falling off), toilet paper holder broken, shower sliding door won't slide, outlet coming out of the wall, and the dining/living room ceiling fan only spins on slow. 3.) Misleading pictures in the listing. The pictures show a well kept, clean, new home. The furniture is anything but new, the shelves have nothing on them except an empty liquor bottle on each and spider webs, the bathroom always stinks like sewer no matter what you do, the storage under the stairs doesn't exist, bedroom pictures show nice big comforters but all we had were ones that barely reached the bottom of the bed and wouldn't cover my feet. 4.) Missing or non-working items: There was no washing machine, it was only delivered after we complained. The TV in the bedroom isn't connected to anything and since the wifi doesn't work there, it's useless. Speaking of the wifi, it's shared wifi from their other unit, which wouldn't be a bad thing if it was strong enough to provide a good signal to the whole home. It works most of the time when sitting at the kitchen table, but not at all from anywhere upstairs. It was also disconnected one day for several hours for failure to pay the bill. The listing also mentions the following: 'Newly Built Fully Furnished Townhouse' but it looks like it's many years old because of the maintenance that's needed, 'Radio' but I saw no radio anywhere, 'Laundry Area' I'm assuming this was the back balcony?, First aid kit? couldn't find one (yes, cut finger and needed a bandaid. Had to try to use tape since that's all we had), dedicated workspace? maybe this is the kitchen table?, dishwasher? only if you're talking about washing by hand, oven? I don't think the microwave qualifies as an oven. I really feel bad about complaining, but the only reason I am is because I paid more and stayed in this place because it looked clean and nice, but was anything but clean and well kept when I arrived. If the pictures and listing would've been honest and accurate, it would have helped me make my decision and this review may have been much different.

Over all my stay was great. The only con was that it was quite far to walk to and from the place and the tricycle as transportation were 100 pesos. It was quite a stretch for a 50 year old man to walk that far. But the place was really nice, Tito Noel was happy to occupy the place by himself. 😊 Until next time!

The house is located in the far corner of the Pathmosville housing development which is located about 4 miles north of the Robinson’s mall on the main North Road. It is a great opportunity to live amongst a Filipino community but still be close to the centre of Puerto Princesa which be reached easily by jeepney or tricycle on the main road. The house is well equipped with fridge, microwave, hot plate, kettle and rice cooker and various pots and pans so you can self-cater, The only issue I encountered was that the water wasn't available until the evening which could be a problem for some. The best part was that Mary and her husband are exceptional and friendly hosts, they transported me and bicycle to and from the airport and are able to advise and help with trips across Palawan. I would certainly hope to stay here again next time I am able to visit the area.

Mary and her husband are very nice and easy to communicate with. They provided us with a lot of information and offered us a free pick up from the airport. Mary is able to assist in any tour you think of in Puerto Princesa, or even help you in taking transport to El Nido or other places. Her place is in a nice and safe neighborhood but far from city center so serves better as a stop heading to the north part of the island. Wifi wasn't available but Mary hopes it will be fixed very soon and this is necessary as 3g is very weak in the neighborhood. Another thing to note is that water isn't available in the early morning hours but Mary stores water in a reservoir to use from during this period. I wish Mary all the best in her airbnb experience and appreciate her efforts to solve all problems.
