This place is our sacred go-to spot when we want to get out of the city and immerse ourselves in nature. This place has special significance for our family because it was here that as a child, we would spend whole days watching over the cows, reading and dreaming as the sun moved across the sky towards dusk. We have recently completed renovations, adding solar & central heating and we would love to share it with people who are looking for a unique experience in an unexplored region of Portugal. The place itself is big enough for a family or small group, with 2 separate bedrooms, a central sitting room, a kitchen with gas stove and one bathroom. The floors are all wood, newly sanded and waxed. Solar panels control the electricity so sometimes on cloudy days we have to manage the use of electrical appliances. The cabin is set in a beautiful meadow where a stream runs through. Facing the house is the “Mourisco”, the highest mountain peak in the area. To get to the cabin, you need a car to go down a dirt trail that descends into the valley where it is located. Just upstream from the cabin is our “moinho”, an old stone mill house that used to grind the wheat.

Eu e os meus amigos tivemos uma estadia incrivel neste refugio no meio da montanha. O Mário foi sempre prestável e simpático. Deixou-nos à vontade para usufruir o espaço com se da nossa casa se tratasse, deu-nos indicações de com acender o fogo ou usar outras comodidades da casa e foi sempre rápido a responder a qualquer dúvida que tivessemos!!! Além da incrível hospitalidade que sentimos, a casa é lindíssima assim como a natureza que a envolve. Absolutamente recomendo ficar neste sítio!!

Wir verbrachten zwei wunderschöne Herbstwochen im Montestal. Die absolute Ruhe, die schöne Umgebung und das gemütliche Haus haben uns sehr begeistert. Da wir sehr schönes Wetter geniessen konnten, haben wir nur die ersten beiden Tage die Zentralheizung genutzt, die mit Stückholz betrieben wird. Der Austausch mit Mario war jederzeit hilfreich und sehr herzlich. Vielen Dank, lieber Mario!

Mário is such a warm and welcoming host. We love the cabin and it’s location. Unfortunately, we had to leave early in our stay, and Mario was very understanding. We had a slight issue with the electricity, but this was solved. If you want a beautiful, peaceful location to relax and enjoying nature, this is the place.

You are a few kilometers from the nearest village, which itself is off the beaten
track. The village, called Soutelo Mourisco, is where Teresa was born. There you
can see the classic, granite stone houses, centuries old, that give the villages in
this region their unique look. From the cabin, it takes about 20 minutes to walk
up to this village. Along the way you will see plantations of chestnut trees, one of
the main staples of the local economy. At different times of the year, you may
come across a family of wild boars, foxes, deers or a flock of pheasants hiding in the wheat
fields.
The closest city is Macedo de Cavaleiros or Bragança which are each about 25 minutes away. This is where you will want to do your shopping.
There is a beautiful dam called the Azibo Ecopark close by for beach and water leasure and some fun activities in Vinhais where you go for a swim and enjoy a biological park where the local flora and fauna are exposed and explained. Fun for kids too :)

I am an avid traveler who loves to connect with people from every type of background. After 12 years of exploration in various countries (UK, Australia, France, South EA, Central America, Italy, USA and Portugal ) I decided to come back and set some roots in my home country. Together with my beautiful family we rebuilt an abandoned house in our favorite meadow where 3 generations have now come to escape the noise of society, disconnect from electronics and admire the simplicity and beauty of nature. My goal is to share this experience with all of you, enjoy some great moments together with joy and laughter. I am an active person and love to explore and discover new unknown gems anywhere I go. My future goal is to continue my grandfather's work to keep improving on creating an ecosystem where plants, fauna and we humans can live in abundance. Now that the house is finally ready to receive people I will be working outside with the use of farming methods such as Permaculture and so many other new methods.
