What we initially thought would be a relaxing getaway weekend quickly took a turn for the worst. Due to running into some issues at a previous Airbnb we were forced to evacuate and find another place to stay during the long weekend. As expected, given that we were trying to book a three night stay during a ‘busy’ period, our options were limited. Edouard’s place, however, was available and, when we messaged him asking if it would be possible to check-in that same night, he replied back immediately. From our initial impression, Edouard appeared helpful and responsive, asking us to let him know when we arrived and had settled in. He assured us that someone would come by the following day to tidy up the place to our liking. This felt reassuring given the state of the place when we arrived. The first thing we noticed was how damp and heavy the air was with the smell of mold. Overall, the place was tidy but lacked cleanliness, though we tried to assure ourselves that (as Edouard had claimed) someone would be over to clean the place up (specifically the trail of dead bugs near the sofa and in the light fixtures, as well as the shavings in the kitchen drawers). Ultimately, these are things that can be cleaned. Most concerning, however, was the bedroom in the basement where we had intended to sleep. The room, equipped with two double beds, a dresser and side tables looked put together, but upon closer inspection we noticed small black pellets all over the bedspreads, the tops of the dressers, etc. On one of the beds we found a turd (the size of a pinkie toe) hidden behind the array of pillows. Given that the basement was clearly inhabited by other guests (rodents!!!) we messaged Edouard about the situation immediately. It was late (close to 1 AM), though he had been responsive not 30 minutes earlier. Despite knowing he would have sent someone to clean the place the next day, given the turd on the bed and the overall amount of pellets throughout the room, we could not possibly spend the night. I’d like to note that there was another bed upstairs, though, given the number of people in our party (and our findings in the basement), we would not have all been able to fit or sleep comfortably. Sleeping in the living room on the couch was also not an option, due to the dead bugs on the floor and shavings in the kitchen drawers (which alerted us that the rodents were likely not confined to the lower level). We contacted Airbnb to notify them of the situation and left shortly after, approximately 1.5 hours after arriving at Edouard’s place. Edouard only replied the next morning at 10:30 AM (9 hours after we had notified him and sent photos of our findings). He told us that he would send a cleaning company over right away to assess the situation, to which we let him know that (because of the obvious health hazard and having no place to sleep for the night) we had left and would like a refund. We deemed this to be fair given that we had spent an hour and a half in Edouard’s place and had not actually stayed. Insistent on sending his cleaning crew to assess the situation, he said he would not be in contact with us until the cleaning crew notified him of the situation themselves. We agreed to his terms, somewhat shocked that, instead of acknowledging the situation or trying to accommodate us in any way, he was rather dismissive and defensive. We waited to hear back from Edouard (as Airbnb had informed us that there was no further action to take on our end), but he failed to contact us. Three days passed, our ‘stay’ at Edouard’s listing had ended, and we heard no word from him nor his cleaning crew. Instead of contacting us directly to try and rectify the issue or offer some form of accommodation, (to our surprise) Edouard chose to leave us a review. Once again, we contacted Airbnb who told us the host would not be offering a refund and, instead, had offered us a stay at another one of his properties. Given his proven lack of communication throughout our ‘stay’ (specifically when it mattered most), the lack of accomodation and his lack of general empathy, I would not recommend staying at Edouard’s place, nor any of his alternative properties. Though he did us a favour by accommodating us on such short notice, agreeing to host guests without knowing the state of his listing (which was last reviewed in July) and failing to communicate throughout the entirety of their stay (especially after they have notified you and provided proof of an evident hazard) is nothing short of irresponsible. Avoid this host and place at all costs.

We had a lovely stay at this cabin. It is in a beautiful peaceful location. The sun shines on the deck all day. Fairly near to some nice restaurants in saint saveur. And not too far from other activities like white water rafting and zip lines.

Un chalet très bien situé, magnifique lac mais que dire de la propreté du chalet! Selon les photos, il est évident que ce n'est pas un 4 étoiles mais il y a une différence entre un endroit d'une autre époque mais propre et bien entretenu et un chalet qui manque cruellement d'amour, voir quasi abandonné. Un sous-sol qui sent l'humidité, une pompe à eau qui coule au sous-sol et qui fait beaucoup de bruit lorsqu'on flush la toilette, de la moisissure autour des fenêtres à l'endroit où est placé le spa, et j'en passe ! Je ne recommande pas ce chalet.
