Felt like we were visitors to a lovely traditional country home surrounded by interesting art and furniture but still very welcoming and comfortable. Lovely place for a long weekend away.

A lovely characterful house with beautiful gardens in a very picturesque Wiltshire village. The house is full of the owners collections of art and artefacts with lots of interesting books and magazines which we could have spent days reading. The facilities were all good and we were lucky enough to have lovely weather so spent a lot of time enjoying the beautifully kept garden. We walked down the canal to the Barge Inn and enjoyed a lovely evening meal, the village shop is a little limited but fine for the essentials and we discovered some lovely walks around the village.

This was a great house for my family from Australia to stay in over the three week Christmas period. Very spacious. comfortable and well equipped. A lovely atmosphere with masses of books and pictures everywhere and log fires in two of the rooms plus a piano. The owners went to a lot of trouble decorating the house for Christmas including a wonderful tree. And they left us a welcoming three bottles of wine. It obviously is a house partly lived in by the owners when it isn't let and some areas are shut off and there are a few notices but it really didn't matter or detract from the enjoyment of the place. A few problems did arise but we dealt with them and the owners were good at liaising with us. A great place for entertaining and all our guests over Christmas loved it. Lovely gardens as well and a driveway for 3 cars. On a fairly busy road but we really didn't notice. Very tempted to book it again in the summer to make use of the gardens, and Seend is a lovely village with lots of walks to discover.

An extremely disappointing stay to say the least. Day 1: No keys for back door supplied in key-safe as promised, so on arrival in the pitch dark, it was a guessing game as to how to access the property…. We had to blindly and precariously negotiate flower beds, a gate and slippery paths etc with bags, children and a dog to get to the front of the property; this was quite a challenge! When we finally got the back door key (hidden behind a vase) it didn’t work (as it hadn’t for previous guests, we were told by the host!) - the lock was SO terribly stiff it was dreadfully painful and virtually impossible to lock and unlock and were advised it was being dealt with ‘next week’ (after our stay!). The house smelt musty and overall felt rather grubby. The upstairs lavatory had a fault and wouldn’t stop filling up then promptly gave up the ghost and wouldn’t flush at all. Finally fixed at 9pm on Day 2 but was a real pain as it necessitated trudging all the way downstairs through to the other side of the house to visit the downstairs loo in the night. Day 3 first thing in the morning, the kettle blew up - a very old and grubby appliance which looked dangerous and we now wonder if it had been PAT Tested. We decided to come home a day early as we were fed up and couldn’t face any more disasters and the time and hassle involved in reporting and fixing ….. considering it was only a 3 night stay in the first place! It might have helped matters to have seen a friendly and reassuring host pop by; but this place seems to be managed from afar by two separate people whom we didn’t ever meet, despite them saying they were passing and nearby. A word of warning; this property is on a phenomenally busy main road with what seemed to be constant lorries and cars speeding past. So if you are after a peaceful country stay, this is not your place!
