Johnny and Cata have a beautiful house, we loved staying there. It‘s a super nice mix of a social place but at the same time you have a lot of privacy. You can chill on the roof, or make yourself a coffee, or have a chat with Cata.
Cata was wonderful to communicate with and very informative about the area and also had some great recommendations. The room was clean and bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was very clean and modern also 😊 Relaxing in the lobby in the evening with a glass of wine and people watching outside was delightful too!!

We were obsessed with our stay at this guesthouse. Not only is it super cute, but Cata and her family went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and oriented to the neighborhood before we left to explore. She even exchanged a few USD with us for Chilean pesos because all of the casas de cambio were closed. Absolutely amazing hosts. We wish they ran all of our Airbnb stays. If you’re going to Valparaiso, do everything you can to stay at this Airbnb.
Casa California is a really unique stay, beautifully decorated with family antiques and art. Cata and Johnny are a lovely couple, making you really welcome and always on hand to offer suggestions about local restaurants/things to do in and around Valpo. This is the place to stay...look no further!

Cerro Concepción and Cerro Alegre are the heart of the touristic area of Valparaiso, both UNESCO designated world heritage sites. Our home is right between them, a short walk from the old town area. The neighborhood includes the famous funiculares / ascensores of Valparaíso (one of them directly behind our house, visible from the mirador / balcony), the paseos - Dimalow, Atkinson, Gervasoni, Yugoslavo, awesome rooftop bars, delicious restaurants, amazing street art, great music in the streets, and fascinating architecture unique in the world. We're at the center of it all!
Public transportation - take any bus to Plaza Aníbal Pinto, we are a 2 minute walk up the street (Almirante Montt).
Taxi - Ask to be taken to Cerro Alegre, Almirante Montt, just before Beethoven.
Parking - There is plenty of parking on our street if you arrive early or late in the day, but it can be busy from 9-5 or so. There is also a parking garage nearby for a fee.

Hello! We're an American-Chilean couple that decided to change our life in San Francisco, California to chase our dreams in Valparaíso, Chile. We met in Santiago, in 2003 and always talked about starting a guesthouse/bar somewhere. With a lot of hard work and a bit of luck we were able to make the jump and bought a century-old house in magical Valpo in 2016. After years of renovation, restoration, and remodelling, little by little our dreams are taking shape. Before Valpo, we had the good fortune of traveling and living in Southeast Asia, after which we settled in SF (Johnny's hometown). Cata worked as a social justice educator at a public high school and Johnny worked in the tech industry. After nine years, we were ready to move on. We love meeting people from all over the world and learning from their life experiences. Johnny makes music, cooks, and is into Zen Buddhism, Cata works with textiles, likes to read and loves the shared history between Valpo and SF. We enjoy places with amazing views, good movies, food, and drinks. We are both passionate about Valpo and want to make sure you enjoy all of its hidden gems. It is a very special place, unique in the world, and a must-see for everyone travelling to Chile and Latin America. We look forward to meeting you!
