We loved getting to meet Mickey, Evelyn, and their animals! the area is gorgeous and the people are fantastic, hope to be able to visit again soon.
We had a fabulous time at the Barhaus. It was the perfect size for a family of 4 and the surrounding forest is gorgeous in the winter. We took a 3 mile hike to the San Antonio springs. The trail was easy to find even in the snow. Mickey introduced us to the alpacas which our kids loved. The place is remote and there is no cell reception, but it is such a beautiful retreat.
Mickey and Evelyn were incredibly warm and welcoming. They spent time going over the daily procedures with the alpacas and even let us get up close and personal with the alpca crew. Warning, Sunny the dog and the alpaca crew will steal your hearts. The Barnhaus was perfect for two and would even be great for families. M & E have truly thought of everything. There are games and books a plenty to keep you occupied for days. This is a good thing because you won’t want to leave once you arrive it is so cozy. On that note, bring groceries and plan on cooking in situ because I guarantee you won’t want to leave. We are already planning our next trip to the Barnhaus and can’t wait to explore some of the trails in the nearby National Parks.
Wonderful October stay. Mickeys home was spotless clean, comfortable, well appointed, and had everything we wanted/needed. Mickey was so accommodating and thoughtful. We wished we could have stayed longer, but are already hoping to go back again in the future!
Alpaca Barnhaus. I just wrapped up a 4 week stay at Mickey and Evelyn’s incredible mountain top retreat. The Alpaca Barnhaus is the best rental property I have ever stayed at. It is extremely well equipped, squeaky clean and well stocked with anything you could need for a comfortable few nights or for a month or two. It is a beautiful environment to relax in and very well located to enjoy the many natural attractions in the area. Mickey and Evelyn were extremely accommodating, delightful to chat with up at the Alpaca barn and happy to share their vast knowledge of Alpaca life. I was thrilled that they let me help with feeding, watering and mucking out these wonderful critters. They are a joy to be around, very with a gentle calming aura. I often took a book and read in the paddock while they lazed about in the sun. Their guard dog Sunny is a sweet girl to be around and is always up for a belly rub. I am already looking forward to another visit next year.
Thompson Ridge was a homestead, opened for sale in 1969. Cabins and a few homes are within the area, but only a few households are here year-round. A country store is in La Cueva, about ten minutes away.
When winter weather isn't an issue, the gravel road is fine for vehicles. In the winter, however, 4WD or AWD would be necessary when there is snow. The county of Sandoval maintains the main road (106) for easy access. We will inform you of the road conditions when you make your reservations.
自我介绍
I am a former English teacher who now raises alpacas at 8700'. My sister Evelyn and I work the small ranch and have a vacation rental called The Alpaca Barnhaus. We both love tennis (watching on TV or if possible in person) and traveling on the road less traveled.. I like to play chess. Animals of all kinds are a passion. We love our alpacas and dogs. We enjoy meeting people and sharing the magic of the mountaintop. We invite you to experience the enchantment of this part of New Mexico.
