Nestling amongst the vineyards and plum orchards of Lot et Garonne, a charming 17th Century water mill and two river side cottages. La Riviere is one of two, the other being Le Pre. Set on the banks of a stream in their own 3 acre, tree lined meadow. The river side cottages, converted from a traditional Gascon barn, stand within their own grounds of 14 acres of park land and are ideally situated to get together for those long summer evenings. The peaceful riverside setting makes it a perfect romantic get away for couples.

Simply superb. A must visit for families. Pool and grounds perfect and a great base for exploring the castles, canoeing, river beaches and much more. Carol and Dave wonderful hosts and helped with tips on night markets and more that really made the holiday extra special. If we return to the area next year we hope their gite is available.
We enjoyed our stay at the place of David and Caroll very much. They have two lovely gites in a big garden and a swimmingpool right in front of the gites. David and Caroll are a very helpfull and friendly couple. The house is close to Duras, a little town with an interesting castle. Supermarket and bakeries are nearby. In the area are a lot of nice things to do and visit. The goose Belle is extraordinary!

Wow, what a find! If this place is available then book it asap as you’re unlikely to find anywhere more delightful in the region. Moulin de Benin has 2 cottages plus the owners’ house on a watermill in expansive grounds. It’s beautiful, peaceful, well equipped and only 2 minutes from Carrefour! You will need a car as it’s rural, neighbouring various vineyards, but the lovely little town of Duras is 5 mins away with a market, castle, shops and restaurants. The cottage itself is hundreds of years old, full of character, and furnished attractively. It has a double and 2 twin rooms, a large lounge and well equipped kitchen. Worth noting there’s no bath though. The outside space is amazing - literally acres to explore including the beautiful pool, sunflower field, huge lawns, outside dining and lounging space, BBQ, and the delightful Frog Island! We loved this place, highly recommended!

The roads are small and quiet, and there is no sound of distant motor-ways. Just 5mins by car into Duras with its supermarket, bank, chemist, Drs, bakery, bars & restaurants. It boasts a weekly morning market on a Mon & night market on Thurs in Jul & Aug.
The countryside is beautiful and the villages picturesque. This is an area renowned for its wine and food which can be experienced in well priced restaurants or excellent produce can be bought in local markets and shops. There are chateaux, old churches, caves, rivers and famous vineyards (St. Emilion, Pomerol, Monbazillac, Bergerac, Cotes de Duras).The local farms grow a variety of crops. in spring and later harvests of plums, grapes, maize or sunflowers. Each farm has vines which are good to walk through. At the top of the hamlet is a forest for longer walks (in September there are Cepes and Truffles – if you can find them!) There is an 18 hole golf course at Chateau des Vigiers, Monestier (25km), 9 holes at Golf de Barthe, Tombeboeuf (25km), and 10 holes at Golf de Marmande (20km).
A car is recommended. Whilst our nearest village is just 5 mins away by car, we do offer a shuttle service if required (very useful for the night markets and wine tasting)! Plenty of on site parking space. If you want to hang up your car keys, the train station in Sainte Foy La Grande is just 14 minutes away. You can easily park your car and take the train to Saint Emillion or Bordeaux. You may have your own bikes or hire them locally, to enjoy the wonderful scenery and peaceful routes off the beaten track.
