The Cappadocia region is home to some of the world’s most unique landscapes, hewn out of the soft volcanic stone by millennia of wind and water action to create a surreal lunar field of deep gorges backed by rippling cliffs, towering rock-cones, and the pillar-like rock formations known as fairy chimneys. This slice of Anatolia also has a rich human history and during the Byzantine era played a major role in the rise of the Christian monastic tradition. Today, while hiking in the valleys you’ll find the countryside here is still scattered with fresco-adorned cave churches, hermit hideouts and monasteries carved out by these early monks while Cappadocia’s famed underground cities, where early Christians hid from invading armies, just beg to be explored.
Geographically, Cappadocia is very small and Ortahisar lies right in the heart of the region between the two major tourist centres of Goreme and Urgup, making it the perfect base for discovering all this region has to offer. Regular buses and minibuses connect the villages and taxis are also available. The best way to discover this area’s scenery and history though is to pull on your hiking boots and explore the trails that wind through the valleys between the villages.

Cappadocia is geographically a very small area which consists of several towns such as Ortahisar, Urgup, Goreme, Uchisar and Avanos. All of these towns are very close to each other and the distance between them is 5 to 10 kms.
Regular buses and mini buses connect all of these towns.
Taxis are always available but best is the beautiful walk and valley hikes that are so close to our house .
Our House is located in the centre of the village of Ortahisar.Parking is available in the centre and then its a small 2 min walk downhill to the house itself .Getting to Cappadocia
By Plane:
There are regular flights from Istanbul to both Kayseri and Nevsehir airports. Airport transfers need to be booked in advance. Feel free to contact us for help in arranging flights and for us to book your airport transfer.
By Bus:
There are overnight bus services from Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya, Ankara and many other cities to Cappadocia. We can arrange your free shuttle from the bus terminal to Ortahisar upon your request. Please ask for bus schedules.
By Car: From Nevsehir: Follow the signs out of Nevsehir towards Urgup Approx 8km past Nevsehir you will see the Ramada Hotel on your left.Turn right at the next traffic lights past this hotel and continue down the hill into the centre of Ortahisar.At the centre you will see a large rock formation in front of you and the local mosque to your right . Stop there and call us or look for the Teras cafe - 4 shops up on the right and one of us will be waiting there :)
From Kayseri: Follow the signs to Nevsehir/ urgup . From Urgup continue on the main road towards Nevsehir .Contine for 4 km turning left at the first major intersection with traffic lights . Continue down the hill into the centre of Ortahisar.At the centre you will see a large rock formation in front of you and the local mosque to your right . Stop there and call us or look for the Teras cafe - 4 shops up on the right and one of us will be waiting there :)
