Water Meadow Cottage is a gorgeous 3-bedroom house, comfortably sleeping 6. Ideal for families or anyone wanting to unwind. You'll be nestled in beautiful, quiet countryside, a short drive from Aldeburgh, Thorpeness and Orford on the coast. The large south-facing garden is full of flowers and birds, has a big secluded patio, and views stretching across the meadows - all for your use only. The bright spacious living room becomes cosy at night with its large wood-burning stove. And, relax! This pretty cottage is Grade II listed, with a modern extension, and offers family sized accommodation. It is one of three cottages converted many years ago from a 16th century farmhouse. There are beautiful oak beams in the original rooms. The light, airy layout includes a big kitchen and a spacious sitting room with wood-burning stove. Upstairs, there are two double bedrooms, one twin bedroom and a new bathroom, all with peaceful countryside views. All bedrooms have high thread count Egyptian cotton bedding and plump feather pillows and duvets. (If you have an allergy to feather bedding, you may want to bring your own.) To the rear of the cottage is a long lawned garden with fruit trees and wild flowers. To the front is another lawned garden and ample parking on the gravel drive. Surrounded by fields on three sides, the cottage is ideal for families and nature lovers. The garden is fenced and safe for children. You may well see the beautiful Suffolk horses in the next field and glimpse the white barn owl hunting in the meadow at the bottom of the garden. At night, there's no local light pollution and the sky is often amazingly starry. Even in winter, with the gorgeous East Anglia light, far-reaching views together with the smell of woodsmoke, make it a perfect getaway. The wood and coal is included at no extra cost. There are short, medium and long walks - for all sizes and ages of legs - right from the door. In a small hamlet, it's a very quiet location. A car is recommended and there's plenty of room to park on the drive. The nearest pub is a 25 minute walk across countryside. You can go by pony & trap in Summer! And of course, you can bring your own bicycles. The cottage has WiFi and an HD Smart TV with Free-sat, a Blu-Ray/DVD player, and a growing collection of great films. There are 50 Penguin Classics on the bookshelf! And a guitar and an upright piano. Perfect for a cosy evening, after a big day.
A gorgeous last minute stay, Sarah was very quick at responding & accommodating us for a very last minute stay. The location and cottage is stunning, with everything you need inside. The walks around are beautiful, a very peaceful stay. We will definitely be returning. Thank you so very much!
Lovely cozy cottage in a peaceful location. Short drive to local beaches and towns. Great facilities, we felt right at home and Sarah was a great host. Highly recommend!
This is a beautiful, cosy cottage. The star of the show is the fireplace - such a wonderful place to gather and hang out in the evenings. Sarah was a great and friendly host, and the cottage is close to lots of great walks, beaches and villages.
Great stay and a lovely touch with homemade chocolate truffles! The Airbnb is absolutely idyllic, quiet and peaceful. We had partridge running through the garden in the morning and could hear pheasants at dusk
We loved our weekend in Sarah's charming cottage. The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful and the cottage is extremely cosy, homely and well kept. The location was ideal for exploring the sights of Suffolk. We had a great walk on Dunwich Heath, a delicious lunch at The Crown in Great Glemham (good for veggies and vegans) and a relaxed mooch around Snape Maltings. Thanks for having us!
This is a quiet rural getaway location. Most people bring a car.
10 minutes drive away is Saxmundham which has a Waitrose and Tesco.
Friday Street Farm Shop is only 5 minutes away by car.
Saxmundham is 2 hours by train from London Liverpool Street Station.
The Suffolk coast is 15 minutes drive: Aldeburgh, Thorpeness, Orford (20 minutes), Dunwich (30 minutes) are all in easy reach.
A walk to White House Farm is a must. Left out of the cottage, left onto the first marked footpath, straight down, over the bridge over the Alde River, right across the field and follow through three gates, going straight. They have barns with amazing art in them open most weekends.
You can continue out of the farm (turning left as you hit the concrete track), then right onto the road and end your way to The Crown Inn at Great Glemham. The pub is about a 25 minute walk away on this route.
