Wonderful and beautiful residence with impeccable grounds and tremendous host. Marco went beyond being a good host. Hope to return soon for an extended stay. Excellent location to serve as base for exploring Central Italy.

La Cannara is an absolutely amazing place for a family to spend several days absorbing nature. The description does not do justice to this property - or articulate the fascinating history of how it was previously owned by the Catholic Church and used to fish/trap "delicious eels". We didn't see any eels, but our family of four thoroughly enjoyed exploring the enormous grounds, wading in the river and lake, barbecuing meals and eating al fresco, and falling asleep to the roaring sound of the river. We are a family of four and rented the main house during May 2018. Fortunately for us, none of the smaller units were rented so we had exclusive use of the grounds. This property would be great for a large family as there is sleeping for 7 in the main house, a double-bed annex attached to the house, then an out-building with a double-bed room and kitchenette, and a second double-bed room. The swimming pool is not heated, but with the glorious weather, it was the perfect temperature. The nearby rose bush does drop a lot of petals into the pool, and we fished out a drowned gecko the first day, but our children (ages 9 and 12) played and splashed from 8am until 8pm. The barbecue is fantastic, and there are numerous places around the property to sit and enjoy the sunshine and views. And ample garden furniture to create sitting and eating places. La Cannara is just outside the town of Marta and just a 5-minute drive to a grocery store, although they also provided bicycles we could borrow for a ride to Lake Bolsena, a short 10 minutes away. Regardless of its proximity to Marta, there is no light pollution at night, so it is properly dark. This made it fun for watching the fireflies come alive in the fields and around the pool. One thing we hadn't realised is how loud the sound of the river is in the main house. We got used to it very quickly, but if you have very young children it might be difficult to hear them playing around the property. This could just as easily be a positive! Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have already highly recommended it to several of our friends. We are considering another visit. but this time bringing our extended family.
