Hello there.....a little note about myself and things to do in Colombo and Sri Lanka.... I am a spiritual person who likes Yoga, Meditation and Ayurveda. I have travelled extensively throughout the world and most of my travels have been backpacking and I have couchsurfed in most places. I shuttle between London and Colombo as I have interest in both locations. I manage 6 apartments at Hedges Court and a few in Colombo 5 which is more like a residential hub of Colombo.....both locations having the best of transport links. I have travelled the length and breadth of Sri Lanka and would say I know Sri Lanka quite well. Please don't hesitate to ask if you need someone to make a plan on where to go in Sri Lanka. I am also a travel writer and used to write in the Ceylon Today newspaper on various destinations in Sri Lanka if you want I can email some of the articles so that you would know in detail what to do.... A standard itinerary on must do things in Sri Lanka.... Colombo - Bars / Pubs / Restaurants and Night Life Sightseeing Beira Lake, Seema Malake, Gangaramaya Temple, Viharamahadevi Park, Kelaniya Temple, Dutch Hospital, Pettah Market, Colombo Dutch Museum, Galle Face Green, Mount Lavinia Beach, Independence Square, Colombo National Musuem & Colombo Zoo Shopping Majestic City, Liberty Plaza, Crescat Boulevard, Odel Unlimited, Paradise Road, Barefoot & Lakpahana Dambulla or Habarana - Dambulla Rock Cave Temple and Sigiriya Rock Fortress (on the way to Dambulla / Habarana visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage) Using Dambulla or Habarana as a base visit Anuradhapura (Sri Lanka's first capital) then Polonnaruwa (Sri Lanka's second capital) on the way back from Polonnaruwa visit the Minneriya National Park and see Elephants especially the elephant migration in Aug / Sep. Kandy - Temple of Tooth Relic, Embekke Temple, Lankatilaka Vihare and Gadaladeniya Temple and in the evening the Kandy Cultural Show. Nuwara Eliya - Called Little England is an excellent place if you want to get away from the heat. Horton Plains is the only national park that you can go on foot on a designated path. Ella - A hippie villa and is a lovely place to spend a couple of days. Nuwara Eliya and Ella have locations popular with the Indian Epic Ramayanaya. Yala National Park - Go for an early morning or late afternoon safari to spot a leopard or two. Now you can use the expressway and get to Mirissa / Weligama / Galle / Bentota fairly quickly and enjoy the beaches. Mirissa is the best place to see Whales and Dolphins during Oct - Mar. Weligama Bay is an ideal place to learn surfing. Galle is a must do place and visit the Galle Fort Off the beaten track areas Arugam Bay Pasikudah Jaffna Trincomalee Pulmudai Arankella Monastery in the Kurunegalla and Dambulla Area Dambadeniya - Sri Lanka's 3rd capital Yapahuwa - Sri Lanka's 4th capital Hope you have a wonderful time in Sri Lanka and look forward to hosting you and making your trip to Sri Lanka a wonderful one.
