The host tell us the day we were supposed to arrived that the house was on renovation. She cancelled the reservation after we were supposed to be there.

We made the best out of our stay at Pilar's house in Roxas. We had rented the house with a couple of friends and had 3 kids with us. There was a lot of misunderstanding and miscommunication that lead to insatisfaction and frustration. Indeed, the house is big, 2 stories, but one is not accessible, used by housekeeper as its dormitory for him and his friends. It's actually a living room you have to go through to the top floor where we lived: 3 bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom; all open to heat and mosquitoes through windows with no glass. We had agreed with Pilar to be picked up at the airport; 4 adults, 3 kids. Upon arrival, we met with Pilar's aid who was waiting for us. We were surprised when we found out she came in a pick up truck with 3 people inside, and the trunk half full of ''owner's stuff''. We were 7+4, plus luggage and ''owner's stuff'' to fit in the car for a 2.5 hours ride... Technically, that means 4 people in the trunk with luggages and ''owner's stuff'' after a two days trip from France to Puerto Princesa. Actually, it turned a lot longer, the driver and Pilar's aid having their own agenda before heading back to the house. Upon arrival, we found a house half ready for us, making us feel not welcome. No drinkable water, no internet, no TV, not working stove, half what's necessary for cooking and dining in the kitchen. The house was not clean, no towels for everyone, bathroom in poor condition. I reached out to Pilar, who did not respond to me directly. The next day, a new stove came in, and we were given a WiFi dongle with the instructions not to use it but for emergency. Pilar's aid had made plans for us, but we never asked for that. We're seasoned travelers and had our own agenda. Months before, when I made the booking, I asked Pilar if it was a rental or if it was included. I have to admit, it was not clear has Pilar never gave me a straight answer on this point. Pilar told me: ''Hi Bertier, thank you for booking with us. I have Toyota Hilux. We can pick you up from the airport. Sure you can use our Hilux during your stay." Pilar's aid was surprised we needed it, and I had to insist to get the keys. I didn't understand why. The next days, we found out the garden was not accessible, the dogs using it as their toilets. There's nothing for tourists in Roxas itself, as it is a very rural town, with only locals. A handful of family restaurant, no infrastructure.We spent the week visiting the area using the car. We were locked down in the house a couple of days over the weekend because of a cyclone; without TV or internet. 2 days before we were leaving, Pilar's aid, shown up one night with a ''contract'' for the car rental, asking me to sign it and pay a daily use for it that summed to about half the price of the house rental itself. I wish it had been sent to me prior to arrival, so we could have investigated renting our own car, or riding private vans during our stay, that could have been a lot cheaper. The cost multiplied by 1.5 the cost of our stay. I felt cornered, and refused to sign it. It has always been difficult to understand what Pilar's aid was supposed to assist us with as she was never able to give us a straight answer on things we asked her. We left Roxas, frustrated by our relation with Pilar; but we enjoyed our family time in Palawan.

We stayed here for three nights with seven of us and here's what we thought:It's spacious, lovely staff who'll look after you very well, it comes with free breakfast. If you want a quiet space away from other tourists then this is the place for you. However, there is no proper beach nearby and must spend lots of money on travel to enjoy the island. Port Barton is about 2 hours away and El Nido is 3 hours by car, we were able to borrow their Toyota Hilux but that also lacked air-conditioning, the back pick up bit is fun to ride on if you don't mind tanning whilst on the move. The place is very open and is indeed fresh when the wind enters the villa, but when the wind ceases to blow, it's very hot and sticky. There's a white cat within the premises and we've named her Duma. An all round enjoyable adventure.
