We had a fantastic time at Chikore house. It is located in front of a wonderful stretch of the beach with less people (avoiding the resort crowd). The housekeeper and the chef assigned to the house just did everything for us. The kids loved the food prepared by the chef every day with fresh fruits, vegetables and seafood, way better than the resort food you have to eat everyday! The property is in front of a white sand beach great for swimming and for the kids to play around during the day, and wonderful for a night-time beach walk too chasing crabs! Hilary and John are superb hosts, highly responsive and very helpful. It is the best place in Diani if you would like the comfort of home, without the "work", and quiet enough to just relax and unplug. It is truly paradise. While staying in the property, you can see families of Colobus and Vervet monkeys for example, and baboons! I highly recommend it. We will be coming back again for sure. Thank you!
Hilary is a gracious host and there are 4 or 5 small cottages spaced out across the beachfront and nestled in trees. It has a rustic non-commercial feel and you wake up to the sound of rustling leaves, birds singing and waves on the beach. The chef cooked us an excellent dinner and breakfast and was able to make whatever we wanted. Totally relaxing and away from everything. There is a very quiet stretch of the beach right out front and we sat late into the night on the veranda, just listening to the sea in the cool breeze. If your looking for a holiday resort, this is not a place for you.... If you want to unplug and feel in touch with the amazing environment like a local, then this is the place for you. My wife and I will definitely return !!
This is a great beach house! Great location with a beautiful beach. Hilary had dinner ready for us when we arrived, just as requested. The personal chef was wonderful. We had 3 fantastic meals everyday. That amenity, along with free rides for shopping, made this vacation very relaxing and enjoyable. We enjoyed camel rides along the beach, snorkeling nearby, fishing trips, plus a beautiful beach front steps from the house. Will definitely plan another trip back here!

John and I both grew up in Kenya and we live permanently on the property which my parents bought in the 1960s. We love to meet our guests and welcome them for a sundowner and a chat and are also available at any time to give advice or help. Things have changed enormously since my parents’ first arrived, when lions and leopard hunted the bushpigs in the forest and the coast line was empty for mile upon mile, but we try to retain a bit of the old ethos of low impact living. We prefer the Indian Ocean to spa treatments and believe in the power of our tropical environment to naturally send the body into into a state of total relaxation. The gentle kiss of the waves on the shore and the orchestra of cicadas in the trees is all music we need. Good food is very important to us and we make sure that our chefs are excellent and that food is fresh. With seafood delivered to the door by local fishermen and an abundance of tropical fruit we are very spoilt. Because we live in such a beautiful and tranquil place we like to holiday in busy cities - Istanbul, Delhi and London. John is a sports and motor racing enthusiast who used to rally cars. Hilary loves snorkelling, Swahili history, and culture and design.
