We came for the bamboo and monkeys but ended up walking up Mt. Atago, which was incredible. We went to an Onsen afterwards (Kenji’s recommendation) and soaked away our aches and pains. This turned out to be an excellent excursion out of the city and well worth the money. Kenji really was exceptional.

Humbly furnished place, conveniently situated near various attractions in a quirky neighbourhood. LOCATION Located right by the Saga Arashiyama (JR line) and Randen Saga (Randen tram line) which are about 20-40mins away from Kyoto station/Yodobayashi station. This may make the initial travel and subsequent travels to other parts of Kyoto a bit long drawn depending on the route you take. That said, the accommodation is VERY conveniently situated to some popular attractions like the bamboo grove (15 mins), Tennryuji (10mins), Togetsu bridge (10 mins walk), monkey park, etc etc. The district itself is also very quirky, with a 24hr convenience store, some cozy little cafes and shops. Our family of 4 found many things to do in this area. HOST & CHECK IN Kenji was very responsive and provided check in details ahead of timr. We could check in early, which was appreciated, and we had no doubt that he would be helpful were we to face any problems (which we didn't). ACCOMMODATION The house is located on the third floor, up a flight of stairs. There are 3 bedrooms, with 1 room situated away from the main living room. Very humbly furnished, with cooking utensils & crockery available (no condiments) and cozy rooms. If you come in winter, do note that there is no central heating, but there is a heater in each bedroom (though it may get cold in the bathroom area). All in all, we enjoyed the cozy, lived-in ambience of the house. Thank you Kenji!
