Located in northwestern Colorado and less than an hour and a half from historic Steamboat Springs. The Refuge spans across 29 square miles, a landmass larger than Manhattan Island. The sanctuary consists of rolling hills and canyons covered in native grasses, sagebrush and juniper trees, with Lay Creek meandering through a large section of the property.
No trains, buses, taxi cabs, Uber or other transportation available. Must have your own transportation to this unique property.
Easy access to the Refuge is provided by US Highway 40 and a well-maintained county road. Yampa Valley Regional Airport near Hayden, CO with commercial air service is approximately 1 hour from the ranch, and Denver is located 4.5 hours southeast of the ranch, while Salt Lake City, UT is 4 hours west of the ranch.

I am the Executive Director at The Wild Animal Sanctuary - which is the largest carnivore and wild horse sanctuary in the world. We operate four separate sanctuaries - with three located in Colorado and one in Texas. As part of our non-profit operations, we also operate two historic hotels in Pritchett, CO, and a Bed & Breakfast in Craig, CO. We use these accommodations for guests who are visiting the 10,000-acre & 22,500-acre Refuges.
