Bear Valley Ski Resort is a mere 20 miles up the stunningly gorgeous Highway 4 corridor, where one can find the best snow, and a variety of ski runs for beginners and advaced skiers. Across the street Bear Valley Adventure Company offers miles of forest trails for those who enjoy cross-country skiing or snowshoeing.

You will need a car to get around; however there is easy access to Calaveras Big Trees Park for mountain biking, hiking, access to the Stanislaus River and NO ENTRANCE FEE if you access from the Upper Moran Road fire road. To access the North Grove of the park here there IS about a 1 mile walk to see the giant redwoods. This park has some of the biggest trees in the world!! One will find amazing hiking trails and the fire roads throughout the park offer miles and miles of mountain biking.
