威奇托(Wichita) · 民居里的独立房间 · 1室1床1.0卫 · 可住2人 · Jan's Art Nest: Cozy Riverside Suite!
Three charming rooms in North Riverside, central to Wichita, yet private and peaceful! My 1930 bungalow is in a wooded neighborhood near a disc golf course, 5 minutes from downtown, 12 minutes from Eisenhower National Airport, and 5 minutes from I-135 or the I-235 bypass. I’m between the Big Arkansas and Little Arkansas Rivers, and just south of me, where they meet, you can visit “The Keeper of the Plains,” the 44-foot Indian chief sculpture that marks this sacred junction.
Jan is a gracious hostess and she has decorated the space with fun, interesting art pieces - this is SO much better than a plain, boring hotel room!
Great stay at Jan’s! We were just passing through the area - having a seamless, simple pitstop made this portion of the trip all the more enjoyable. Would recommend the Bontanical garden a mile from Jan’s, great all around!
Great communication, clean, comfortable space. Great spot close to the river for walking!
What a steal! Great location, plenty of private space, clear instructions and very clean! This is a charming neighborhood with friendly neighbors and close to the river. Everything about the place was cute, plenty of character and careful thought out. Jan really put a lot of love into this space and goes above and beyond.
13th Street North, a main east-west street crossing Wichita, is three doors south of me. I’m one block west of N River Boulevard, which follows the Litle Arkansas River, skirts Riverside Park, then meets the Big Arkansas. Here, walk on the pedestrian bridge to view the grand “Keeper of the Plains,” an Indian chief guarding the rivers’ confluence. Take in the display on Kansas native peoples, and notice that you’re in the back yard of The All-Indian Museum.
The blocks surrounding me feature some of North Riverside’s quaintest and best-kept bungalows—brick, stone, and siding homes with peaked entrances, curving sidewalks, and pergolas! And because we’re smack between the rivers, we have the largest trees in Wichita.
In the fall, take a walk through Oak Park, three blocks away, a disc golf park and a gorgeous riverside walk!
Just west of me, 13th Street crosses the main branch of the Arkansas River, and McLean Avenue takes you south towards Wichita’s modern central public library, The Advanced Learning Library. Ask me about sculptures by notable local artists there!
Now you're in the heart of Wichita's river attractions, where the Douglas Street Bridge crosses the river. Our iconic "mother ship," the circular Century II Convention Center, is at the edge of the delightful A. Price Woodard Park, a set of sculptural fountains and walkways on the river's bank. A few blocks east is Main Street, the heart of the business district.
Just to the west of the river on W. Douglas Avenue is the Delano Clock Tower and this area's great eateries and trendy shops. South of Douglas near the river is the Wind Surge baseball stadium. From Seneca Street at Douglas, all the way east to Edgemoor Avenue, you can ride the FREE Q-Line, a city bus service running every 20 minutes in mid-day hours. It takes you the length of the Douglas Design District.
Walking distance from me, Woodrow Avenue takes you south to the rear sculpture garden of the city-owned Wichita Art Museum, a modern building with fabulous second-floor restaurant, free-to-view permanent collections, and plentiful delights in its gift shop. Ask me for their packed calendar of fun activities.
About five blocks west of the art museum is Botanica, the wonderful oasis of plants, flowers, and whimsical sculptures that form Wichita’s botanic gardens. The children’s attractions are superb, with everything from a fort to climb through, to a haunted forest, hands-on music park, to a real beehive they can watch in action. Between November 25 and December 30, 2023, visit after dark to view the fabulous “Illuminations,” colored lights everywhere!
Just around the bend, you can visit Wichita’s Historic Cowtown, a few blocks of cowboy culture to tour, also with a great gift shop offering perfect, sometimes edible, mementos of Kansas. All that is minutes from me. I have free literature on all Wichita’s attractions, I’m a specialist on art galleries, and nothing is more than 20 minutes from my neighborhood!
Your GPS will get you to W 13th N and Woodrow, BUT BE PREPARED TO TAKE THE RIGHT FORK at the Y as you turn off 13th Street. I'm on Woodrow AVENUE, so BEAR RIGHT, or north-EAST. (The left fork, Woodrow COURT will lead you on a goosechase to get back since Woodrow AVENUE disappears three blocks north of me at Garland and 15th Street.)
Pull into my driveway when you first arrive, at least to unload. If I need to get my car out, I’ll let you know. Parking along the streets is always easy.
Leaving my place, the TRAFFIC LIGHT is the best place to turn onto 13th Street! Go around the block (north to Weaver, then make two rights) so you can enter or cross E 13th Street N with the protection of the light at River Blvd (Lieunett St).
Parking in Wichita is easy, except in the central business district, where you might circle a block or two to find a spot on the street.
Eating/Shopping Near Jan's Art Nest: A Dillon’s supermarket and the whole range of fast food places, banks, drug stores, dollar stores, and even an Aldi’s Food Store, are a short drive from me, clustered around W 21st St and N Amidon. The fancy new Club Car Wash is convenient at Woodrow Court and 21st.
