The YumYum Bungalow is a lovingly crafted cottage nestled perfectly between town center and the redwood forest. She is built from local timber and stone and adorned in jewel colors Cal Poly, the Community Forest trails, and the Arcata Plaza are all just a short, lovely neighborhood walk away. The cottage is shoe-free, cozy, and welcoming. Bienvenue! A recently renovated studio cottage with a private gate and entrance down a stone path. Originally built as a carriage house in 1924 and renovated into its present use in 2023. Oak Hill Woodworks did the building and fine woodwork. Salvaged, local old growth redwood make up most of the structure. The floors are local, old-growth fir, and a tan oak slab supports alchemy in the kitchen. The walls are insulated with wool- adding sound proofing and making you feel like you’re wrapped in a big wool sweater! The mattress is new - made of wool and natural latex, and made cozy with a mohair blanket from Avoca Mill in Ireland. The lamps and decorations have been gathered in our travels from places like Morocco and Turkey. The kitchen was designed for those of us who love to cook. There is a hand forged knife made from an old saw blade. The counters are made out of local, quarried granite. The pottery is all made by our favorite artists. The fridge was selected because it is extra quiet. We provide pantry essentials like olive oil, sea salt, some basic spices etc. Please note- there is no microwave- the petite oven does well for heating up leftovers The bath tub is deep but relatively small- it doesn’t really work for two - unless you’re both children 😉
