Ardalum House is the Isle of Ulva’s old shooting lodge, situated in an idyllic woodland alongside Loch Tuath, with a large garden and views of Ben More and the West coast of Mull. Ulva is renowned for it’s wildlife, including sea eagles, otters, songbirds and prey birds, and it’s varied coastline of beaches and cliffs, and there are numerous old buildings of interest. The house is used as a hostel during the summer season and has all of the associated facilities, including a laundry and sauna. The house is decorated and provisioned to the standard of a home rather than a hostel, so is very suitable for intimate occasions as well as for more formal groups. There are two Mongolian yurts in the grounds with wood-burning stoves, which can be made available for guest use on request to increase bed space.
A wonderful house on a wonderful island. We had the best time and are already talking about coming back next year!
This hostel is the perfect place for a relaxing weekend away. The hostel is very spacious with a large dining room, kitchen and living room. The kitchen is well equipped to make big group meals. The location was amazing, with beautiful views out of every window. There are very nice marked walks to do on Ulva. I would highly recommend this hostel and hope to return in the future!
We were a group of fifteen friends who brought in the new year at Andy’s and Yvette’s, and every one of us had a wonderful time. Ulva is beautiful, and the house was a relaxing and comforting place to come back to. Andy and Yvette were accommodating and patient with the difficulties that we encountered in getting there (which had nothing to do with them) and communication throughout our stay was excellent. The house and kitchen are very well equipped, and the sauna was a fab bonus. My only gripe would be the fairly weak shower pressure, but this is very minor and not enough to affect my enjoyment. Highly recommend!
Thanks for a beautiful stay! The place is amazing, and also amazing for the price. The hosts were super responsive and ready to come and help (you're in the wild after all, and many things need to get sorted). I'd recommend this property to people who're looking for great value for their money, unique locations and responsive hosts 👍
Ulva is renowned for it’s wildlife, including sea eagles, otters, songbirds and prey birds, butterflies, and it’s varied coastline of beaches and cliffs.. the Livingstone Cave, or archeological importance, is accessible via one of the many walking routes surrounding the house. The population of the island amounts to three households so the location is very private. There are numerous old buildings of interest, including the architecturally interesting church.
There is abundant parking at the pier on the Mull side. To access the island you will take a short ferry ride across the sound (£6 return per adult, £3 per child, £1 per bicycle), and from there will walk a mile to the house. Bags can be transported for a fee of £20 return.
