Johaness has not been at place but he managed everything totally and we had alovely stay at Villa. Its not a hotel this is an outstanding project over the jungle so don't expect luxurious Floors and cleaning- its a originall project that we loved and we had contact with nature and best views on the area.

the best and most lovely place I ever stayed ever in the last 36 years of traveling. The staff and specially the owner is very kind and helpfull person. A kind of personality with interest in culture and art difficult to find in asia. I strongly recommend this place to anyone whi would like to enjoy the atmospher of nature and friedlyness. Our one month stay in the villa was very nice. we wish Johannes and his wonderful son all the best.

when we reach the villa, all tired was disappeared, it has take about 6-7 hours by bus from Jakatar to here. we have reach Bogor first and then transfer another bus, which was a tough test for us due to the traffic jam and bad road.. but the view from the house can be wonderful, amazing.. under the villa there has a beautiful beach can surf and there has teacher who can teach surf and it cost 20USD one day... coconut is tasty also,, i love coconut!! thanks Johanes for offer the nice houe and we talk a lot in Chinese, feel cordial with him.. it is a wonderful place for staying when you travel in Indonisea!!!

When my friends and I arrived at Karang Aji Villa there was no one there to greet us, we tried to hunt down staff for assistance but we couldn't find them. We checked for a room key that Johannes said would be available at the reception desk (there is no reception desk) and found a key in a door we assumed was our room. The bathroom had a padlock on it, we weren't provided with towels, the place hadn't been dusted, swept, cleaned at all, and the light in our bedroom did not work. I tried to find a staff member again but no luck so I called Johannes and he said he would call the staff. He then called me back and asked me to hand my phone to a construction worker so they could find the staff who were not answering their phones. It was as if they weren't aware we were coming though I booked the place a week in advance. About 10 minutes later a staff member appeared, did not greet me or my friends, went into our room, stood on one of the beds and tried to replace the light but had to get an extension cord with a light attached and taped it to the ceiling of our room. He said nothing to us. We tried speaking to him in bahasa Indonesia but he only said two words to us. We felt like we were staying at someone's house who had to go out of town last minute and asked his neighbors to take care of us. There was no hospitality nor concern for us. The first night I had to call Johannes again to find out if there was any place to eat because we couldn't find staff to assist us with suggestions and also to get towels. The next night the lights went out in our villa (which we are used to since we all live in small villages, which the staff was not aware of) but the staff did not contact us, they didn't come to see if we were okay, nor did they offer us candles or a flashlight. We tried to find someone, saw a worker and asked if he knew anything and why no one was here to assist us. He was unhelpful. So I had to call Johannes again to ask where the staff was and if they had provisions for black outs. At this point it was my 4th time calling Johannes since we arrived and informed him of the poor service we received. Our final morning, I used the shower upstairs and the water leaked onto one of our beds downstairs. We spent most of our time at Ocean Queen Resort across from Karang Aji which I would recommend staying at instead, and they have bungalows for the same price as Karang Aji with a more helpful and responsive staff. The staff there helped us with local sites to see, let us use their pool...

When you are looking for an extra ordinary experience you sure have to go to Karang Aji which was build by the owner Johannes and gives you a wonderful view of the bay of Cimaia whe one can surf in summertime. I was there during christmas and then the sea is more quiet but still delicious warm. Karang Aji is aan atristic creative place which shows the love for wood, for old Indonesian and Indian culture in the furniture and ornaments that have been constructed in the bulding. Yes, Karang Aji is absolutely a special place. There are different rooms of different comfort, like a backpacker room which is very simple and a room de luxe where you have a shower and bathroom. Mind you, don't expect a hotel with plain floors and sqare doors. The whole place is a bit old and shabby but neverthelees it is worthwhile the experience. The staff will provide you a nice dinner but there are many nice restaurants not far away. since i came too late in the nearby villaga Pelabuan Ratu there was no transport to the villa but on a motor cycle and i had too much luggage for that so Johannes was so kind to arrange transport for me. He also offered me a ride to Jakarta when I had to leave for although Karang Aji is only 90 km from Jakarta it is a long drive with the bus on small roads. So if you have the finance it is better to find a taxi to bring you there. You can always discuss with Johannes for he might come for you. So Karang Aji has been a great experience for me and I surely recommend it to everyone who is looking for a non conventional stay not far from Jakarta a with a perfect sea view
