Affordable way to enjoy a private mountain lake vacation! Host can provide hassle-free camp setup for two. You're invited to camp nestled near the "Lake in the Sky". It is a rare find surrounded by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Gasoline engines are not allowed which make it a paddler paradise and a quiet lake for relaxing. Lakes are not viewable from the campsite, but the largest is just 2 miles down the road. Kayak rentals for additional cost. CLOSED FOR WINTER MONTHS - try "Jeff H,s Lake in the Sky" Airbnb instead. Welcome to our Happy Bear Camp! It is our place to get away and have some solitude in the mountains. Our private property is a humble beginning carved out of newly excavated steep mountain terrain. Our guests have use of our picnic table, fire pit, and cedar mulched areas next to a gravel parking area. The host can set up their tent for you, or you can bring your own or car/van camp. A large jug of water will be available at the campsite since we have no well water onsite, but guests have access to a flushable toilet. Contact the host if customized tent setup is desired. Standard setup is the 1-2 person dark green and gray tent pictured with option of camping mats, cots, or both. Campers need to bring their own pillows and sleeping bags/sheets. Other equipment available by host: household electrical cord, electric fan/heater, flashlight or LED lantern, privacy tent with camping potty. Hammock stand and lake toys upon request: pool noodles, plastic pail and shovel, frisbee, horse shoe set. The 5 gallon jug has potable chlorinated tap water, but campers should bring their own bottled water for drinking. If you are into off-grid living, try out our new rainwater fed flushable toilet house. We just added it at the upper gravel driveway (so that it flushes into our septic) but it is a VERY steep climb up the gravel driveway so a portable camping potty with privacy tent can be provided by the host if renters do not have their own. The campsite itself is a mere gravel driveway at the foot of our steep property next to a road, but it is easily accessible from Foothills Parkway near Townsend and Maryville, Tennessee and you would have the whole site to yourself. The private Top of the World Community Recreation Area is only 2 miles down the road and features the 50 acre lake that has a beach with Adirondack chairs, benches, boat ramp, horseshoe poles, and a basketball/pickleball court. Since it is for members and renters only, you may be the only one there on a weekday when school is in! Renters should be able to use basketballs and pickleball equipment from a deck box at the court. Ask the host if you want to borrow their horseshoe set or inner tube float for free or rent their inflatable kayaks (paddles and life jackets included). We'll be adding Happy Bear Kayak Rental as an Airbnb Experience as soon as that website feature is available again. Meanwhile you can message the host to see if your rental date is available and pay as an extra service on Airbnb. Picnic shelter and gazebo are available for small events for additional cost to the landowner association. Relax, have fun, and enjoy the private community mountain lakes including Holiday Lake on the cover photo which is just .25 mile down the road. Easy access to the western side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for hiking, biking, wildlife/bird watching, motorcycling, plus beautiful mountain views as you drive up Foothills Parkway. Not far from Look Rock tower to get a 360 degree panoramic view. Book now to get this opportunity at the lowest price as we get started! 50% off for full week stay! Contact host for minister, missionary, and military discounts. If this does not suit your needs then try our neighbor "Jeff H,s Lake in the Sky" Airbnb instead. They have fire pits, hot showers, and accommodate more than 2 people.
No one sets up a camper like Pamela does. Extremely well thought out camping experience. The only thing I need to bring is my pillow and blanket. She has a water station, outhouse, a really nice tent with a very sturdy wind, rain tarp a fire pit (if you ask her in advance) chairs, picnic table. I came down from Kentucky and this last trip I spent the night at her accommodations and woke up in the morning and hiked to the top of Mount Leconte. I was well rested and ready for the challenge. I hope to be coming back again and again. The extension cord and the tiny little heater make it almost like clamping. I’m able to charge all my devices and be very comfortable and warm.
This is our first camping experience and we couldn’t hope anything better. The place is exactly how it’s on the list. It’s well set up, quiet and beautiful. Pamela prepared everything to make the stay easy and comfortable. She went above and beyond, very responsive, genuinely wants you to feel comfortable staying at her place. We would highly recommend.
Pamela did a great job at having exactly everything I needed to have a good camping experience. All I needed to do was show up with my pillow and Blankey really close to an awesome hike up to look rock Tower. And just down the road are too lakes to either jump in or look at. I was glad there was a neighborhood dog who barked away the pack of coyotes :-)
Even better than we imagined. Pamela went above and beyond, was so kind, and so responsive. She had a dish station, an outdoor toilet, and rain water toilet up the hill, rain cover, picnic table and so much more. We loved every second and can’t wait to go back.
Awesome little campsite me and a friend stayed at for the weekend to hit up the dragon and surrounding areas on our motorcycles, we trailered down, so if you plan on doing the same you will need a small trailer to be able to comfortably use this space, other than that it was fantastic and the host absolutely exceeded my expectations!
Wooded mountain terrain. Campsite is next to a road that has infrequent cars after 10pm. Campsite is visible from the road. We've added some privacy screen fencing. One cabin across the street. Two others can be partially seen through the woods.
Neighborhood is usually quiet except for vehicles driving by, occasional building construction sounds at other cabins, dogs or rooster in the distance, or a turkey gobbling nearby. Deer frequent the property.
Entranceway is steep gravel driveway that flattens out towards campsite. There is a tent sign with an arrow pointing to the right to the campsite area. Tight turnaround for large vehicles, so host recommends driving slightly uphill to the left then backing in to campsite area so it is easy to drive out when exiting. There are two electric pole guide wires that hamper turning around also (see photos).
To get to the lake recreation areas from our driveway, turn left.
