The Periyar River Lodge, on the shores of the tributary of Periyar River and adjacent to Thattekad Bird Sanctuary, provides a perfect escape for those who cherish nature, enjoy bird watching, or seek respite from the routine of city living. Designed to synchronize with the ethnicity and traditional aesthetics of Kerala's architecture, this serene retreat, primarily constructed from teak wood, features spacious guest rooms, a comfortable lounge, sunlit verandas, and an infinity pool. Periyar River Lodge is aesthetically built, with the 75-year-old basic structure in teakwood still in immaculate condition; an extension has been seamlessly integrated into the original wooden framework, transforming it into a traditional 'Naalukettu.' The architectural concept of a 'Naalukettu,' characterized by an open courtyard at the heart of the house, around which the four wings are constructed, represents a distinctive feature of ancient Hindu architecture in Kerala. This design was traditionally employed to accommodate extended joint families. The Lodge has 2 bedrooms, offering a choice of either a double bed or two single beds. These rooms feature en suite bathrooms equipped with all contemporary conveniences. The bedrooms are entirely constructed from wood, and they boast spacious wooden windows that provide scenic views of the river. In line with this unique architectural style, the bathrooms feature open-air rooftops while offering modern urban amenities and conveniences. A spacious lounge separates the two bedrooms, with the central courtyard adjacent to it. The lounge opens out to a spacious verandah where guests can unwind on traditional 'Charu Kasera' (leaning chairs) or comfortable swings, all while enjoying an unobstructed vista of the Periyar River, surrounded by adjacent hills and lush green forests.
