Set 6 miles south of Buxton and 17 miles west of Bakewell, it’s a perfect base for your Peak District odyssey. Once a wild land of outlaws, some of which this former hayloft may once have harboured, it’s now treasured by seekers of tranquillity and freedom, adrenalin and adventure. Enjoy the independent establishments of Buxton and its opera house or wander the wild from your doorstep to explore Wolf Edge, Three Shires Head (6 miles) and the exquisite Dane Valley Way. The apartment’s interior is sleek, light, comfortable and modern, with lovely views over the owner’s smallholding and the surrounding countryside. Relax in the spacious lounge/diner and reminisce on thrilling days around the glowing wood burner. There’s a great use of wood throughout, from the slatted feature wall to the kitchen units, coffee tables, TV cupboard and beds. The two bright and airy bedrooms have a lovely mid-century feel, and the bathroom is a soothing space for tired limbs and excited minds. Unwind outside with a sunrise croissant or sunset BBQ, and bask in the enveloping green velvet of nature. There’s a wheelchair lift to the first-floor property, which is also great for heavy luggage. The grand Tudor estates of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall (both 20 miles) are calling. Horticulturalists will delight in the grottos, scented terraces, and lakes of Thornbridge Hall Gardens (17 miles). Climb wild Kinder Scout (19 miles), paraglide from Shining Tor (8 miles) and delve deep into the astonishing Blue John cavern of Castleton (16 miles). Explore the magnificent Manifold and Hamps Valleys, ride or cycle from Hulme End (10 miles) to Waterhouses (15 miles) and find Neolithic caves at Beeston Tor (13 miles). Great adventures await.
