加尔各答 · 整套民居 · 2室3床2.0卫 · 可住3人 · Red Ochre Kolkata 2 bedroom entire ground floor.
Red Ochre was built by my parents, in which they, my sister & I lived many happy years. It's been a home where family, friends & neighbours dropped in at all hours, knowing they'd find a ready welcome. However, time passes, people pass and things change. And I wanted my home to move into another phase. I hope my guests will love my home as much as I do, even without the nostalgia that I associate with it. I welcome everybody from all communities, gender, or sexual orientation. In Red Ochre, you will get the entire ground floor of a 2 storied house to yourself. There is no live in caretaker. She will only come in the morning to address house keeping needs. Breakfast will not be made; however, there is a fully functional kitchen and provisions for breakfast can be provided. The entire house comprises of two bedrooms, a living room, one attached bathroom and the other next to the second bedroom, a corridor, a fully equipped kitchen and a backyard. The first bedroom has two single beds. The beds are 78" X 41". Both beds have a 5" hard mattress with a 3" soft mattress on top. For those with back problems, the top mattress can be removed. There is a 42" Smart TV, a desk to work on, and two table lamps in the room. The ceiling fan in this room is remote controlled. This bedroom has an attached large, spacious bathroom, with hot and cold shower, a WC and a bidet shower. There is a plug point for electric devices. The other bedroom has a single bed which is 75" X 39". Here, too, the bed has a 5" hard mattress with a 3" soft mattress on top. This room has a desk to work on, two table lamps and an easy chair. There is no TV in this room. The 2nd bathroom is not attached, but next to the room. This bathroom has a WC with a bidet shower. There is no geyser, so there is no hot shower. There is a washing machine in this bathroom. The living room has wooden sofas and a small, 2 seater dining table. There are table lamps for focussed and soft lighting to suit your needs. Between the living room and the bedrooms is a small corridor, with a first aid box and an ironing table. The kitchen is fully equipped with an induction stove, microwave oven, a rice cooker, a toaster, an electric kettle, a French Press coffee maker, a water filter, all the pot and pans, crockery and cutlery that you will need. Emergency rice, dal and spices have been provided. Tea bags, coffee and milk sachets, with sugar, jaggery and no sugar alternatives are also provided. The house has a paved backyard with two neem trees and a mango tree and many growing plants in pots. You can take chairs out to sit there. There is a secured personal wi-fi connection, only used on the ground floor. The service provider is Airtel. The speed is 100Mbps. Though there are only three beds, three more sleeping arrangements can be made, if you are Ok with removing the top 3" foam mattresses from the beds and placing them on the floor. I do not, however, suggest this for a long term stay. Please note that the same premises are also available with a one bedroom with an attached bath option.
Shikha's appartement is the place where you could dream to stay in Kolkata. It as the charming atmosphere of the old houses of Kolkata with all the modern comfort you would need. The bedrooms are spacious and furnished with taste and elegance. They have big and nice attached bathrooms. All is perfectly clean. The kitchen is totally equipped and the little courtyard perfect to take breakfast outside. Shanti takes care of the house in a sweet and perfect way. All was perfect for us and I highly recommend Shikha'place...I'll definitely come again.
stayed here with my parents for 3 days. Shikha was really helpful and the place felt right at home. Internet connection was good and i didn’t face any downtime. multiple food options are available nearby and swiggy/zomato can easily deliver food of your choice at the doorstep. getting a cab from there was very convenient. tea shop right outside the door :) overall it was a great and relaxing experience. in the evening you can go for a walk and explore nearby markets and eat chats , panipuri and samosa . thing that can be improved is: 1. kitchen utensils in drawer/cabinet were not clean and had some cobweb around it. but we cleaned it before using as the kitchen was fully functional. 2. handwash was there in only 1 bathroom. Rest was good. i would love to stay here again if i get chance to visit kolkata in future.
I have so much to say about our stay at Shikha's place. First she is a superb person, warm, friendly, and someone who will make you feel at home. She was patient in addressing my queries and endless questions. She is super knowledgeable and passionate about History and we had some wonderful discussions around certain topics. I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to her for supporting us in a medical emergency. The fact that the caretaker of the house is a professional nurse and there is a hospital next door came as a blessing in a particularly distressing situation. The Kitchen is fully equipped and on many mornings, our host was gracious enough to offer us a freshly brewed cup of coffee. The pantry is sufficiently loaded and the kitchen has all required gadgets and utensils for basic cooking. The caretaker can also double up as a cook if need be. For a family travelling with an autistic person, we are indebted to Shikha for her hospitality.
Had a lovely stay at Shikha's red ochre home. It has the old school Bengali vintage vibes while still having updated modern amenities that made our stay so charming. The outdoor area was such a bonus to enjoy the winter sun shine. Location is perfect - several Chai and food stalls right outside the building, cafes in walking distance, pharmacy right next door etc. Wifi was fast and worked well. The only tiny thing I'd mention is that because of its central location the traffic noise could be a little annoying at night but Shikha does mention this in her listing description and frankly it wasn't bothersome enough to take away from the overall charm of this place! Hope to stay here again! Shikha as a host was awesome as well, very responsive and helpful!
I booked the place for my mother who was travelling alone to Kolkata for pilgrimage, and I was worried because I couldn't join her due to my work commitments. But all my anxiety was laid to rest by the excellent arrangement made by Shikha at her property. My mum who's usually very finicky had zero complaints! She was immediately taken by the homely coziness of the place. From the aesthetics to the amenities, the place covered all the bases! The location is in the heart of South Kolkata, far from all the commotion, but close to all the action. The accessibility is brilliant, as all modes of transport are just few steps away. Last but not the least, Shikha was a gracious host, taking pains without my prompting to ensure everything went smoothly! Looking forward to this place on my next visit to Kolkata. :)
Red Ochre is located in Jodhpur Park. Jodhpur Park used to be a golf club, which after the Partition of India, was parcelled out in 500 sq. yard plots to Govt employees who decided to migrate to West Bengal from what became East Pakistan.
This relatively small area includes two higher secondary schools, one for girls and one for boys, two nursing homes, a large marketplace which accommodates a fish market, a vegetable market, meat shops, grocery shops, hardware and electrical equipments, etc. Jodhpur Park also has a large pond, (locally called a lake), very close to Red Ochre.
Today, Jodhpur Park looks a little different from how it used to look when I was growing up here. Almost all the original owners have passed away, and fewer and fewer of the older houses remain each year. However, it still remains one of the most connected areas in the city. There is nothing that you will require that will not be found within 700 metres of the house, from chemists, to restaurants, to emporia, to one of the biggest malls in the city.
A brochure with nearby tourist spots, tourist guides, restaurants and shopping areas can be shared with you, later.
Public transport is regular in Calcutta, though very crowded. Shared autos will get you quickly to nearby places. Otherwise, there is Uber and Calcutta's archetypical yellow taxis.
For short periods, parking is possible down the road, inside Jodhpur Park. For paid overnight parking, a nearby petrol pump will oblige.
