Why do I like Vejer? Undoubtedly because of its beauty and strategic location.
It is a white village from where you are only a few kilometres away from the best beaches of Cádiz but far from the mass tourism of sun and beach and the hustle and bustle. I advise you to lose yourself in its narrow white streets and discover every day a new corner of the village and the region. Don't miss the Plaza de España, have a glass of fino in the Casa del Vino. Go into a museum or sit at a table in any of the narrow streets and greet the locals as if you had been there all your life... you will feel like you are in your own village after two days.
Declared a Historic Site, awarded the National Beautification Award and forming part of the Network of the Most Beautiful Villages of Spain, it sits on a beautiful hill at the foot of which runs the Barbate River. The Arab legacy is reflected in its popular architecture and in the urban planning of neighborhoods such as the Jewish Quarter.
Numerous vestiges confirm the passage of Phoenicians, Carthaginians and Romans through this land. In the year 711 would take place very close to here the battle of La Janda, in which the Visigoths lost the dominion of the peninsula in favor of the Arabs. Walled from always, it still preserves in good condition several towers (of the Mayorazgo, San Juan and Corredera) and the four gates of the medieval town perfectly integrated into the urban set: the Arch of the Segur, the Villa, the Sancho IV and the Closed Gate. The castle (11th-16th centuries) is located in the highest part of the old town, accessed through a beautiful horseshoe arch. It combines Muslim and Christian elements.
Our tips for you
- Beaches, all are spectacular from sunrise to sunset.
-Mangueta Beach, you enter through the first roundabout of Zahora (not Zahara but Zahora). The entrance is on an unpaved road but then you don't have to pay parking and you are at the end of the beach of El Palmar...only the locals know it.
-Las Dunas de Trafalgar beach, parking 3 euros.
-Beaches of Caños de Meca, parking 3 or 4 euros. It has fresh water spouts that fall on the beach. The views from the top restaurant make the beach look like the Caribbean. There are a couple of small coves for nudism.
-Beaches of El Palmar, to the right of the tower there are 4 beach bars and to the left are all the surf schools. Without doubt the longest beach on the coast. You can walk to Conil. More than 10Km of endless beach. You can rent a surfboard, go to a concert or enjoy "pescaito frito".
-Zahora Beach: dominated by the famous Trafalgar lighthouse. A very special bay. Be careful with the parking, there is not much
-Beaches of Conil and La Fontanilla.
Calas de Roche, undoubtedly the best beach option if you are in the Levante, but go early as they fill up quickly.
-La Barrosa and Roche beaches, a paradise.
-Villages and their particular traditions
-Vejer, museums, narrow streets, patios, corners, little clothes, art and craft shops. Its Jazz and Flamenco festivals, its night of candles and its running of the bulls... the most beautiful village in Cadiz.
-Conil, mass tourism...the interpretation centre La Chanca is definitely worth a visit.
-Zahara, the coolest and poshest of the coast. Chiringuitos marbellis a la gaditana. El pez limón is cool with its live concerts.
-Bologna, its famous dunes and Roman ruins are definitely worth a visit for a whole day. Be careful not to let the wind blow.
-Tarifa and surroundings, the village inside the walls is beautiful, outside the walls it would have to be thrown away. The beaches for kitesurfing are incredible.
- Sports Activities
-Surfing, on the beach of El Palmar there are many surf schools.
-Horses, in Zahora there are horse riding routes along the beach. A wonderful activity. You can also do Polo there.
-Kite Surfing, you will have to go to Valdevaqueros (before arriving to Tarifa) or Playa de los Lances in Tarifa. It's about 30/40 min from Vejer. If you want to start kite surfing, this is the best place in the world to do it.
-Gravity, in Conil in the Poligono, is not the nicest place in the world but the people are very cool and they do yoga, aeroyoga, etc. for children and adults.
-Paragliding, Vejer is the birthplace of paragliding in Cádiz. There is a school and a starting point in the village. There is a bar called El Poninete which is very funny. Have an air baptism...see how it goes.
-Golf in Montenmedio, Benalup and Santi Petri.
-Bike, newly made bike lane from Barbate to Caños and from Caños to Conil. A good walk to do early and with the family.
-Karting, arriving in Conil from El Palmar.
- Cultural Activities
-Malamantas, they are minstrels who show you Vejer singing in the streets. This is a must
-Fundacion M;ontenmedio, spectacular open air contemporary art collection. A 2 hour drive 5 mins from Vejer where you can enjoy the works of Annis Kappoor or Marina Abramovich in the middle of a pine forest.

There are several cultural associations where almost every week they organise circus, storytelling, theatre, stactic dances, guided meditations and workshops of all kinds.

You can enter to unload up to the door of the accommodation by car, then you have to walk around the area.
Access to the door of the apartment is possible until 12 am in the morning.
The nearest supermarket is a 3 minute walk from the accommodation.
Tips:
Gastronomy and Restaurants
There is no doubt that almadraba tuna is the king, and retinto beef the queen, or vice versa.
Be sure to have molletes with manteca colorada or zurraspa for breakfast.
At the door of the house there is a very famous butcher's shop where they sell Lomo con Manteca (pork loin with lard), very well known and well known.
Vejer Town
ElMuro: new and undoubtedly the best discovery in Vejer. Not to be missed
La Juderia, a classic with incredible views from the top terrace.
The Caliph's garden, the gastronomic reference of the village. If you get a table you have won the lottery.
