Beautiful rustic cedar cabin /Treehouse nestled on our back property, in the middle of woods. Rogue River is a short walk down a path from the treehouse! House has deck with view of nature and Wall to Wall Windows! The cabin is run by limited solar power for lighting, charging and coffee. Compost Toilet and Utility Sink Available. Outdoor shower coming soon! A 24 ft pool is available on the owners property. Use of the owners bathroom off main house for shower or toilet. Unplug and get back to the beauty of nature in this unique house amongst the trees. Custom built to view nature! It is so romantic to be with your special person and just sit up in the top space looking out at the trees with the flickering candles. It is such a special place to bring your child to spend quality time with them with a bonfire and playing games as a family. They will never forget it! Another great thing is to come for a guys or girls getaway with friends! Enjoy coffee or a glass of wine while relaxing in nature together! Power We are now excited to offer limited solar power for lighting, charging phones and making coffee! We have solar lights outside for the path and lighting around the home. We now have a gas powered generator to offer as backup power when the solar power is not enough because of a cloudy day or no sun day! We have lots of battery operated lights in the home also! We cannot allow flame candles or smoking because of a fire hazard. We have fire extinguishers in the living room for safety. We have a drawer in the bedroom with battery replacements. If they run out message us and we will drop some at your door. We have battery operated portable fans and my husband and I open the slider up top and the window under the stairs and it cools the place down well. Heat We have a 30,000 BTU InfaRed Heater on the wall. The tree house has just recently been insulated. One thing I absolutely love about Sparta is that we are in the country but only 30 minutes from the beautiful city of Grand Rapids. So we can entertain ourselves or eat anywhere we want but yet still come back to the peace of the country feel. We have plenty of food in Sparta and the surrounding areas! Or you can use the grill and never leave! :) My husband and I do both. I love to bring takeout there and not cook! My husband loves to make steaks on the grill. :) I have made a guidebook with the food and entertainment offerings on our listing. Compost toilet usage When we built this I told my husband in no way were we going to have the toilet hooked up to the house! I figured there would be a smell like a portable toilet. My husband convinced me there wouldn’t be and I had to admit he was right. There is a hole in the bucket so no liquids stay in it. The solids are covered by cedar so it surprisingly doesn’t smell bad! After using the toilet just scoop cedar chips over it and you are all set. If you need us to empty it because it smells let us know and my husband will be happy to come out and empty it! :) lots of new experiences living off the grid. If you really hate that idea we do have a toilet in the bathroom where the shower is, in the house near the pool. Utility sink The water that is run to the sink is from our home hose bib so is safe for washing of hands and such. We have large bottles of water under the coffee machine so feel free to use those for drinking and coffee. Sleeping arrangements We have a pull out Queen Futon with a comfortable mattress in the living room. We have sheets and blankets for it next to the sofa in a basket. The main bedroom has a queen bed with linens provided. We have a twin air mattress that could be used for the downstairs room or the 2nd floor. The second floor isn’t as big as the main floor but could squeeze one there. We have a lockable gate at the top of the stairs so that would protect anyone from falling down them. Stairs Please watch young children when they are on the 2nd floor. We have a gate at the top of the stairs but they could go out on the deck and we would like them to be supervised if they are on the deck. Make sure children know it is not safe to climb on anything on the deck. Cooking/Outdoor Grill There is a quality grill outside of the treehouse. Utensils and grill cleaning brush are provided. If you don’t see them let us know and we will bring you another one. It may have been just misplaced. We have paper plates and plastic silverware available in the small cabinet inside the cabin. We will also have seasonings available. Cooler Bring an ice cooler for refrigerated items. Keurig Coffee maker My husband and I love relaxing with our coffee in the morning while we lie in bed looking out the windows at the birds. As I write this he just saw a deer. We have sugar, sweetener, and original coffee mate creamer. Bonfire pit There is a bonfire pit available with wood. Please watch your fire and the surrounding areas of it. We named our house bear Smokey because only you can prevent forest fires! My daughter’s cute idea! Bug Spray Use bug spray! We are in the middle of the woods and mosquitos love it here. We will have some available if forgotten. Golf cart We do have a older golf cart that we use to run back and forth with. We are willing to allow you to use it to bring things back to the cabin and during your stay because it is a ways back and so fun! If you desire this let us know ahead of time and we can meet you when you get here and to show you how to use it if needed. The only rule will be no children can operate it for safety reasons. Pool/Golden Labrador Retriever The hosts live at the house at the street where the parking area is. There is a 24 ft above ground pool you will have shared access to. It is swim at your own risk and there is a locking gate that will need to remain latched for safety of others. Pool floats available for use. We do have a golden retriever/lab mix. He is very friendly but is only 2 years old so is excitable still. It may be possible you could come across him in the back yard when swimming or walking to the bathroom but when guests are here we will try to keep him out of the backyard pool area. Additional Bathroom/Shower/Laundry Facilities We will be building an outdoor shower this season and should be available in May! We do have an exterior entrance to a bathroom off of owners home that can be used for guest purposes for showering or additional toilet usage. There is also a washer and dryer that could be used as you enter the bathroom. We will have a lock on the inside of the bathroom for your privacy. We leave it for guest use only during your stay. So freely use it when needed. Property Our 5 acre property butts up to the Rogue River and thousands of other acres of other land. We are so excited, we just cleared a walking path to the river! It is about 450 ft walk to the river. This year we will be building a walk path to the river. Often in the Spring and Fall it can be very wet depending on the amount of rain. It is near the river and can be swampy. We are rural yet still have somewhat of a residential feel. It is the perfect balance! Who doesn’t need restaurants and pizza?! We have a walking trail from our house to the cabin please be careful when you are walking as with all woods there could be tripping hazards. It is about 450 ft from the parking area. Please be considerate of our neighbors or we will not be able to continue to operate. We do have a neighbor a few houses down that does work with machinery on his property at times. Most of the time all you hear are birds and tree frogs but can’t guarantee complete silence always. There are fallen logs, and rough terrain not on the walking trail so if stray off the trail tread carefully and children should not be unaccompanied in the woods as it is very easy to get turned around or lost. Also as in all woods watch out for poison ivy, oak etc. Remember leaves of three let them be! It’s a good rule. I would always recommend long pants in the woods!
Had a wonderful time! We were only there for a day but even the short amount of time we spent there was wonderful. Definitely someplace I’d come back to again.
Annette was very proactive about making sure we had the instructions we needed to have a comfortable stay. She was very friendly and responsive. The house was cozy and quaint, suitable for 2 people. We stayed toasty warm even when the temperature dropped into the upper 30s. The bathroom wasn't insulated so that did get very chilly, but the rest of the place was warm. Being surrounded by fall colors was very nice. The land surrounding the AirBnB was very wet and muddy so we weren't able to walk around much, but Annette did think to offer us boots in case we did decide to venture out.
My family loved our get away at this treehouse for a peaceful, nature filled, camping weekend. Our host went above and beyond to make sure we had an incredible time. It unexpectedly rained a lot the day before we came but we were already on the way so I didn’t pack rain boots for the kids. I didn’t even have to ask her about this, she thought ahead to have boots available for all 3 of my kids and even us (plus toys out for the kids to use)!! That helped a ton as the hosts made a wonderful pathway carved in the dense forest behind the treehouse that dead ends to a creek where our three boys loved to go for walks multiple times a day. When you first pull in you are going to think you are at someone’s house and perhaps the wrong place. But just follow the signs and use their provided golf cart and you drive back pretty far behind the main house to get to the treehouse where guests stay. Overall we would LOVE to come stay again!
We live in the City of Sparta Mi. We are just outside the village in the township. Our property butts up to the Rogue River. We are rural yet still have somewhat of a residential feel. We do have a neighbor a few houses down that does periodically work with machinery on his property. Most of the time all you hear are birds and tree frogs but can’t guarantee complete silence always. We are only 5 minutes from the village of Sparta that has a grocery store, gas, thrift store, downtown shopping areas and fast food and restaurants available.
We are 10 minutes from Long Lake that has beach access and a walking trail. We are 30 minutes from Grand Rapids, 40 min from Muskegon, 20 min from Rockford, Cedar Springs and Comstock Park. Very close to many things to do! One thing we love about Sparta is that it is country but centralized to a lot of areas.
