At the gates of Greater Paris, between Seine and the forest of Fontainebleau, rich in a thousand-year-old history, Melun is a town in Seine et Marne with the great advantage of being close to the essential castles of Fontainebleau and Vaux-le-Vicomte:
- Very rich in its history, Fontainebleau is a true imperial residence; its castle is the only one to have been inhabited by all French sovereigns for almost 8 centuries. It is one of the largest castles in France, and the most furnished in Europe. A must see !
In addition to its rich cultural heritage, Fontainebleau will also seduce you for its national forests, its outdoor leisure activities (hiking, climbing, horse riding, cycling), and for the charming villages which surround it (Barbizon, Bourron-Marlotte, or even Samois-sur-Seine, the village of Django Reinhardt).
- The castle of Vaux-le-Vicomte is located on the territory of the French commune of Maincy, and built for the superintendent of finances of Louis XIV, Nicolas Fouquet. The latter brought together the greatest artists of his time to build the estate. The architect Louis Le Vau, the painter-decorator Charles Le Brun and the gardener-landscaper André Le Nôtre, will create in Vaux-le-Vicomte an ensemble whose perfect harmony will inspire the whole of Europe for centuries. Louis XIV surrounded himself with the same team to build the Palace of Versailles.
As you will have understood, the region is rich in tourist sites. However, don't forget to also visit the pretty heritage of Melun such as the Saint-Aspais church, the National Gendarmerie Museum, or the ND collegiate church of Melun.

Melun train station is a 10-minute walk from the apartment. It is served by trains from RER line D, Transilien line R and the Ouigo Train Classique and TER Bourgogne-Franche-Comté networks.

20 minutes by car from the Château de Fontainebleau.

Melun is located in Zone 5. The ticket can be purchased at all stations on the Île de France, Transilien or RER network.

- Departing from Gare du Nord, Châtelet-les-Halles or Gare de Lyon
- RER Line D towards Melun (around 50 minutes)
