This 2-bd/2.5-ba multi-level condo is on the second floor of a walk-up, with partial ocean views. “The Makahuena” is located on the southernmost point of Kauai. This 2-bd/2.5-ba multi-level condo is on the second floor of a walk-up, with partial ocean views in the heart of sunny Poipu. The entrance level has an open living space, full kitchen, open air lanai, and a washer/dryer in the unit for your convenience. On the second floor the primary bedroom is furnished with a King sized bed, ceiling fan, and ensuite bathroom. The guest bedroom is furnished with a Queen sized bed, ceiling fan, and ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower. Both bedrooms are equipped with a portable AC. ***Construction Notice: There is active construction on the neighboring property. We don't have specific details at this time. There may be related noise and building materials in view. Rental rates have already been adjusted to reflect a competitive rate.*** Shipwreck beach (5 min walk), enjoy boogie boarding at a nearby Brennecke's Beach (8 min. walk), go snorkeling with lifeguards on duty at Poipu Beach Park (10 min.) or take surf lessons at Sheraton Beach (15 min.). Walk to the Grand Hyatt Resort (5 min walk). Treat yourself to a massage at the Anara Spa or play golf at the nearby Poipu Bay Golf Club (one of Tiger Woods' favorites) - all of this within walking distance.

Location was exactly what we hoped for. Great access / home base for all things on the South side of the island. Add in a well appointed kitchen and some AC for the bedrooms and we were good to go. The walking trail next to the ocean was an added bonus and you can make it to Shipwreck beach in about 20 mins and even go past it and explore the cliffs. FYI groceries are pretty limited so we placed a pick up order at the Lihue Walmart and swung by and grabbed those items on the way.
My wife was sensitive to the sounds of the AC. When we contacted Destination Kauai they were super helpful and understanding. They were excellent hosts who were responsive to our needs.
As an previous Airbnb owner, I know the importance of a rating. I know how damaging a negative rating can be and how rewarding a positive one can be. In the spirit of that, I went with a four star rating because this is a new listing and I know how hard it would be to recover from a 3 star rating. Hosts were clear in their communication w/ check in/check out. Super easy. They didn’t message during the trip and since they are experienced hosts with other airbnb properties, it made me wonder if this was bc they knew what the primary complaints would be. When we entered, it was very hot despite windows open and fan on. there was a mildew smell. The main floor w/ living room + kitchen had no AC unit, only a big fan. We couldn’t hang out in the common spaces because it was too hot and you had to scream to talk b/c of the fan. The two BRs on 2nd floor had AC. The 3rd BR was used for storage. I don’t think the hosts would stay here as the place is now with the $. I wouldn’t come back.
