There is a corner store that serves coffee, subs, breakfast sandwiches and a good selection of essentials.
Two blocks away there is a Extra supermarket which is a full sized supermarket. Also has a good hispanic food selection.
There is a bar, Oleary's, on Garfield Avenue & Claremont Avenue, that serves good food.
There is also the Light Rail Cafe just past the Garfield Avenue Light Rail on Randolph Avenue.

NJ Transit Light Rail - Garfield Avenue Light Rail Station
The station is located on the same Randolph Ave. one block over, walking north.
Catch "Tonelle Avenue" towards downtown Jersey City and take to Path for NYC. The connection to PATH can be made at "Exchange Place" which is the fifth stop.
Catch "West Side" to get to the apartment.
Ferry
The apartment is well situated to liberty state park which is where you’d catch the ferry. Take the light rail at Garfield ave station, which is three minute walk down the street, the next block. Then take the light rail’s Tonnelle avenue train one stop to the liberty state park. From there you grab a shuttle to the slip where you board the ferry.
