The building was originally a spotting tower used to spot and send warning signals about approaching Luftwaffe aircraft. When you see the position of the property right at the top of the cliffs you can see why! Capel-le-Ferne itself was home to RAF Capel-le-Ferne, an RAF station that predominantly served as a forward base for supporting RAF Fighter Command, responsible for defending the skies over Southeast England from German air attacks. The station housed several squadrons of fighters, including iconic aircraft such as the Supermarine Spitfire and the Hawker Hurricane. Today, you can explore the area and find remnants of the airfield's infrastructure, such as old bunkers, concrete foundations, and runway remnants. In the village you will find the Battle of Britain Memorial. This features a unique clifftop memorial, including the Christopher Foxley-Norris Memorial Wall, which bears the names of the aircrew who participated in the Battle of Britain.
