The best way to get around is by walking and by public transit (TTC), UBER, and Taxi. Although if you have your own car and know your way around the city and parking you can get around downtown. Christie station if 5 minutes walk away so you can get through the core of downtown during the day pretty easily. As it gets later into the night the public transit is still open but at varying hours. The last train on the subway usually comes at around 1:30 a.m. Late at night we would highly recommend Uber, or if things are close enough walking. Walking is generally safe even late at night through the downtown core. Just be sure to walk in well light areas.
