The view from Palmela Castle encompasses a panorama from Lisbon to the Atlantic Ocean, over a ridge of windmills and across Portugal’s Arrábida Natural Park, a protected haven of sheltered beaches, rugged nature and cliffs descending into the ocean. This is the area that we made our home in 2023, and now we invite you to stay with us and experience everything we love about this area of Portugal. Our guest space is a private, self-contained one-bedroom apartment built into the hillside; it forms part of the larger farm building that is our family home. The space is recently renovated, and you can experience the comfort of modern living in a traditional Portuguese farmhouse setting. It has a beautiful sun-filled living space and private terrace with sun shade for dining and relaxing. We live with our two young children in the house above, and share some of our grounds with our guests. We have over 100 fruit trees, and invite guests to wander in the orchard, relax on the lawn under the dappled shade of a mature rubber tree, enjoy some of our seasonal fruit or homemade produce with a coffee. We are passionate about wine, food and cycling, and can advise our guests on some of the best experiences in the region. The apartment has a cosy ‘cave’ bedroom built into the hill, with a UK king-size bed and generous built in wardrobe. In the open-plan living space, we have a single lounge-bed which converts into a single bed as needed, meaning we can accommodate up to three adults, or two adults and child. In addition there is a cot available for babies. The kitchenette is equipped with a double induction hob, fridge-freezer and microwave, and a full set of cooking equipment and utensils, as well as crockery and service wear. There is also a BBQ grill for guest use. Guests can enjoy food at the indoor or outdoor dining table, and the south-facing terrace has a large manually-operated sun-awning for your comfort. It is a wonderful spot to enjoy the sun setting behind the windmills of Palmela. The lounge space has an original open fire for cosy winter evenings, a TV, Bluetooth speaker, two-seater sofa and armchair. We also have a selection of games and books available for our guests’ enjoyment. The sunny bathroom has south-facing window and large walk-in shower. The whole apartment is equipped with heating and air-conditioning, but the thick walls of the farmhouse tend to keep the space wonderfully cool even in the heat of summer. The Quinta is private and gated, with parking is available for guests in front of the property under the shade of the Jacaranda tree on our cobbled driveway. Both steps and a ramp lead up to the terrace and entrance to the apartment, and once you have accessed the apartment there is one further step up from the living area to the bedroom. Otherwise, the apartment is all on one level. A washing machine is available in our laundry room for shared use with our guests.
