Rose and her son are the epitome of perfect hosts. This was, without a doubt, my most enjoyable Airbnb experience to date. Their home was immaculately clean, comfortable, and excellently air-conditioned. Additional fans were also provided for extra comfort. They respected our privacy while also going above and beyond the call of duty. They ensured we had breakfast food on our first night, provided beautiful fresh fruit during our stay, and even treated us to some amazingly tasty fried fish. If you want to experience the true essence of Grenada and feel part of a community, or even if you're on a quick business trip seeking some leisure, this is an outstanding choice. I've already told Rose that I'll be returning very soon. I wish I could rate this experience higher than 5 stars. Thank you for your exceptional hospitality and incredible value for money
My dad and me got the opportunity from the 12th to the 29th. March 2024 to be guests at Rose Marie in Rosie's Restful Retreat. Rose Marie is a wonderful hostess and offers a spacious, very well equipped and very clean apartment on the ground floor of her house in Mount Moritz just above Saint George's. The sunsets through the hilly landscape overlooking the Caribbean sea are spectacular. Rose Marie does everything for a dreamlike time on Mount Moritz. On our next visit to Grenada, we won't look for anything new, because it couldn't be better than Rosie's Restful Retreat. Thank you Rose Marie.
RoseMarie did everything possible to make our stay great. She became more than a hostess, we now consider her a friend. She was readily available for questions at any time.
The pictures of Rosie’s place do not do it justice. It is very spacious, clean, inviting and homely. The property had everything you need to feel at home. Beds are comfortable and clean and the mosquito nets an added bonus. I loved sitting outside in the morning with my cuppa and enjoying the view and breeze. I drove but the buses are easily accessible to town and pass right outside of the property. Rosie, I cannot thank enough. She was welcoming and friendly but also gives you total privacy. She communicated with me through Airbnb. This is now my first go to when I return to Grenada. Top host and I have no doubt she will very soon become a Super host. Thank you Rosie x
The Mt. Moritz community is a very interesting and vibrant place. It is perched on land that boasts acres and acres of rich vegetation and many people depend on agriculture for their livelihood. With its rich history of Irish, Scottish, and English immigrants who first settled on the island of Barbados before immigrating to Grenada, to work on the cocoa and sugarcane plantations, it has become a favorite and desirable place to live.
The village contains a school, postoffice, medical station, a few grocery stores and bars, a large playing field next to the community center, and a great many hiking trails. In the pasts many people used to raise livestock such as cows, goats, sheep, and pigs which was then slaughtered and sold to the people in the community.
Mt. Moritz is a very close knit community where neighbors look out for each other and share among themselves. If someone in the community gets sick or is hospitalized, everyone rallies together to render aid to that person. But like most small communities, everyone knows everybody's business and share in the local gossips.
The Moritz community center is used for many local events including a monthly breakfasts where local food is cooked and sold. There is a large playing field surrounding the community house where cricket and football competitions used to occur.
Because Mt. Moritz nestles on hilly land and it's close to the coast, there is always a cool breeze blowing through the village.
Quite a large number of the original inhabitants of Mt. Moritz have immigrated to Australia, the United States, and England. But, many traditions still hold fast in the community: All saints night, November 1st, where locals burn candles on the Graves of their deceased love ones and sing hymns. On November 5th, an English tradition: The burning of Guy Fox is carried out and a delicacy called Konkie is made. It is mostly made with pumpkin, cornmeal, Sweet potatoes, coconut milk, sugar, and spices.
In addition, celebrations such as Harvest, Independence day, Carnival, Christmas, and other festivities are yearly occurrences.
From a past of isolation and independence, of racial discrimination, and exclusion of strangers, the Mt.Moritz community has learned to embrace people of all colors and races, has accepted what was known as "Outsiders", into what has now become a melting pot of racial harmony, the building of friendships and acceptance, a continuing bond of unity and loyalty to one another and the preservation of a village seeped in mystery and tradtion.
There are 2 local busses (#8) running in the community. In addition, other busses from outside of the community passes through the village on their way to Happy Hill and Molinere, and will also take you to St.George's city. The fare to St. George's from Mt.Moritz is $2.50 E C. The return fare is the same. One can call a cab if they wish to use alternate transport or if they are courageous enough to drive on purpose narrow roads, can rent a vehicle to take them around.
