Escape to this delightful barn conversion located in the picturesque Eden Valley. The property has been tastefully and sympathetically converted whilst retaining many original features. The accommodation comfortably sleeps six people in two double bedrooms and one twin bedroom (super-king option available, please request at time of booking) all having painted pine furniture and comfortable beds. Soft towels are provided. The ground floor has open views across the courtyard and rear garden. The peaceful countryside location is in the heart of the Eden Valley yet only a short distance from Penrith, Ullswater and the Lake District. The well equipped cottage is surrounded by gardens and is set around a cobbled courtyard shared with other holiday cottages. From this elevated position between Kirkoswald and Renwick you can enjoy uninterrupted views across tranquil pastures and woodlands towards the hills of the Lake District and Pennines. Howscales was originally built as a working farm during the middle of the 17th century. All the buildings here at Howscales are constructed using the local red Lazonby sandstone, both for the walls and the traditional sandstone tiled roofs. This cottage is an ideal base for walking and cycling (only a mile from the C2C route) or for exploring the Eden Valley, Lakes, Pennines and Hadrian’s Wall. This property can be let alongside three other cottages: one sleeping four guests, one sleeping three, and one sleeping two, should you require more space for a larger group! The cottage has reverse accommodation to make the most of the views and original features. The bedrooms, bathroom and shower room are situated on the ground floor and the open-plan kitchen/dining and living area are on the first floor. The main bathroom has a bath, separate shower, WC and wash basin. The shower room has a corner shower, WC and wash basin. To reduce single-use plastic usage, we no longer provide complimentary toiletries. Instead, we provide The Bath House hand wash and hand cream that we can refill. This cottage was part of the main barn and retains the distinctive arched facade, low arched windows and oak beams. The first floor is open-plan with a cosy snug, dining table, kitchen and sitting room. The kitchen is well equipped and boasts an integrated fridge and dishwasher, gas hob, electric oven and extractor. A microwave is available and a small freezer is located downstairs beneath the stairs. A washing machine and tumble dryer are located in a shared utility/laundry room. The lounge is a light and airy room that has windows to two sides and double doors that give access to an external staircase that leads directly down into the garden. There is a wood burner (initial supply of fuel provided) to hunker down in front of after a day of activity. There is also a flat-screen Smart TV, DVD player and Bluetooth radio. The lovely gardens are shared with the other cottages on-site but there are plentiful quiet corners with seating for a morning coffee or evening glass of wine or just to enjoy the views and the birdsong. Parking is just a few yards from the cottage.
