Lock Keeper's Cottage has a splendid setting with the River Itchen on its doorstep. It was originally home for the keepers who managed the river lock. The cottage has been renovated to a high standard and is now a comfortable and spacious family home. It's perfect for unwinding, rebalancing and recharging. There is a tennis court on site. There are plenty of walks and things to do in the area. The cottage is about 10 mins away from the centre of Winchester and 15 minutes to Southampton. Lock Keeper's Cottage is in the grounds of Qing Ya Xi (in Mandarin meaning tranquil, elegant river), the home of Justin and Bing with our two teenage daughters, three dogs and two cats. There are over 7 acres land shared between the cottage and Qing Ya Xi. So there is plenty outside space by the cottage. The two homes are 100 yards away from each other and the cottage is naturally separated from the main house area by a row of 20 meters tall red cedar and sycamore trees. Therefore the guests will have their privacy. The cottage has separate parking area. The cottage is 2,230 Sq ft. All rooms are airy with natural light. On the ground floor, there is a well equipped kitchen, a large dining area, next to it is a living area under the orangery. The sitting room has its original beams and an open fire. There is one bedroom with ensuite bathroom on the ground floor over looking the Navigation of the River Itchen. Underfloor heating is installed through out the ground floor. So it's lovely warm and cosy in Winter time. There are 3 bedrooms on the first floor. The master bedroom is massive with ensuite bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe. The second bedroom has a separate sitting area and a small walk-in wardrobe. Our daughters especially love the window seats for reading while enjoying the river view. The third bedroom has a small double bed in it. The second and third bedrooms share the family bathroom with a bath tub in it.

This home is one of the best homes I’ve had the pleasure of staying in. The home is spacious, clean, cosy, comfortable and beautifully decorated. The kitchen is very well equipped and well thought out. They home is set in a picturesque location with a river and steams to explore on the property. The host are lovely, very responsive and will go above and beyond for you. I would highly recommend booking this place, you will not regret it!
We stayed for five days and didn’t want to leave as Bing was so welcoming and her idyllic water front cottage was so lovely, comfortable and well equipped. Bing had prepared the house for our family Christmas stay with a Christmas tree, lights and decorations which made it so cosy. She couldn’t have been a better host. We particularly loved meeting the four legged part of the family, Mulan and Pheastus. The garden with the various streams flowing it through was stunning and there were plenty of pretty local walks through the countryside and along the river. We would highly recommend a longer stay at this cottage which couldn’t be more perfect and we will definitely return. Thank you so much Bing and Justin.

Lock Keepers Cottage and our main house Qing Ya Xi (meaning tranquil, elegant river) share more than 7 acres of land by the River Itchen. There is walking by the river and you can even walk on footpaths all the way to the historic city of Winchester, where you can visit Winchester Cathedral, the Great Hall and enjoy many restaurants and pubs. St Catherine's Hill is a popular place to walk dogs and run. The view on top of the hill is always splendid. There are a few pubs within a 1.5 miles radius and the White Horse and The Old Forge in Otterbourne are popular places to eat. There is a small supermarket in Otterbourne (Nisa) and Waitrose a couple of miles away in Chandlers Ford. It is twenty minutes drive to the New Forest National Park, where thousands acres of woodland and plain with ponies and donkeys roam freely. It's a perfect place for walks and cycling.

Lock Keepers Cottage is only 7 mins from M3 junction12. There is parking in the grounds. There is limited public transport, although there are buses to Winchester and Southampton from Otterbourne. The nearest shop- Nisa Local- is open from 6:30am-10pm everyday and is only 2 mins drive away and Waitrose, in Chandlers Ford, is 7mins. Winchester is 12 minutes drive and Southampton is 20 mins .
