Iconic 1960s Kiwiana bach, small and comfortable, suit two couples or a family of 4, situated on a steep site with views of the beach and farmland. 3 minute walk across the road to the beach. Well known surf beach with safe swimming for children in the estuary/river. Good fishing spots at either end of the beach off the rocks. The bach has recently had a modest makeover with a new bathroom and kitchenette, it has everything you need for a beach holiday but still retains the classic kiwi holiday atmosphere and character. The kitchenette is located within the living room and includes 2 electric built in hobs, coffee machine, air fryer, toaster, jug, pots/pans, utensils/cutlery, crockery, Weber bbq, an extendable dining table, easy chairs and 2 seater couch. There are 2 separate bedrooms each with a queen size bed and storage. The bathroom situated in the downstairs area is accessed by 8 outdoor steps. Deck space is available on both levels with a shade canopy on the top deck. There is storage space for surfboards, fishing rods etc. Off street parking for 2 vehicles.

Great place and clean. The place was a bit smaller then I expected, but everything else was perfect. Outside shower had an amazing view. I did have to explain my kids what CDs were!😂
A gem of a place - classic kiwi bach with modern kitchen and bathroom - very well organised for beach lovers - prepare for quite a few steps up but well worth the effort for the view
What a great spot, beautiful views. We would suggest some blankets for the cooler evenings.
Wife and I had a fantastic holiday with a 2yr old and 4yr old at Sandy Bay. Bach was a gem with awesome new kitchen and bathroom. Short walk to the beach and safe estuary for the kids to play. Kids loved hunting for skinks and watching the dozens of butterflies around the property. Great outdoor area for rinsing sand off on returns from the beach with hose and outdoor shower. Had the beach almost to ourselves most days (other than surfers). Short drive to icecream or restaurant in Tutukaka for a coffee or lunch/dinner (had amazing fish and chips there). Highly recommend this property and would love to return one day!
Absolute paradise! We’d love to come back. Very lovingly done, you can tell it’s a family Bach through and through, all the charm, and all of the modern amenities too. Only watch out is there are no doors to the bedrooms (only curtains) so best suited for families who don’t mind the lack of privacy. Very little mobile data too so great for a digital detox!

Beautiful sandy beach with rocks at either end for exploring and/or fishing, an estuary/river for childrens play, a backdrop of farmland, bush and pohutukawas. Horse riding trips are available in the bay . Local beaches within a 5 minute drive are Woolleys Bay, Whale Bay and Matapouri. Matapouri has a dairy/local well stocked shop with takeways and an outdoor casual dining area. Tawapou Nurseries offer a native garden centre with coffee to enjoy in the lushly planted grounds. Tutukaka is a 15 minute drive and provides restaurants, a gift shop, dairy, marina and fishing club. Boat trips from Tutukaka are available including diving, deep sea fishing, day trip to Poor Knights Island for snorkelling, paddle boarding, kayaking. Whangarei town centre is a 30 miinute drive.
