A lovely peaceful spot, but comfortably close to town. Great to have apples straight from the tree.
Patrick, our Airbnb host, provides an exceptional experience with a stunning surrounding. The location is not only picturesque but also reflects Patrick’s dedication to creating a welcoming environment. His attention to detail and hospitality make the stay memorable, leaving guests with a desire to return. Highly recommended for those seeking a delightful getaway.
We had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful, scenic and peaceful AirBnb of Patrick and Di. They both welcomed us with the friendliest smiles the 1st morning of our stay. Had plentiful cool activities to do around the house, we enjoyed the croquet game in the front yard the most and even the hosts own inventive game which our children enjoyed so much alongside the trail walks that surrounded the area and also the beach was just down the road which we also spend a large amount of time there. Such a peaceful sanctuary it was, and felt very much at home. The home is absolutely lovely and comfortable. Patrick and Di (the hosts) had left so much information around the house with their helpful notes, manuals and information pamphlets of what to do in the area. Overall, we enjoyed this so much and can’t wait for our next getaway weekend here again. If your looking for a peaceful paradise away from the city - this is the place! Thank you Patrick and Di - was an absolute blessing!
The listing really didn't do justice to this wonderful cottage. Set back a long way (down a long driveway) from the road with a very large, perfectly kept garden, the house offered plenty of privacy, and a totally secure space in which our children could play (including croquet pitch and boules area) Beaches are close by, and town has all necessary amenities. The hosts were lovely, extremely welcoming and ready to help out with any recommendations.

Waiuku is at the southern end of the Waiuku River, which is an estuarial arm of the Manukau Harbour and lies on the isthmus of the Awhitu Peninsula and is 40km from Auckland City. The Awhitu Peninsula extends north from the mouth of the Waikato River to the entrance to Manukau Harbour.
Waiuku was an ancient Maori portage between the Waikato River and the Manukau Harbour. This was a traditional area of Ngati te Ata. It was a stopping point for Waikato Maori trading with Auckland.
In European times Waiuku became a port in 1843, on the then important trade route between Auckland and the agricultural area of the Waikato. It became a town in 1851. The Awhitu Peninsula was a major centre for the kauri gum industry . Waiuku later grew as a farming centre. A steel plant was built in the 1960s to convert black sand deposits from Waikato Heads into steel, and is situated at Glenbrook.
Kowhai cottage was part of a farm, which has now become regenerated bush and was planted with thousands of native trees and plants about twenty years ago. Nearby to this property is a pond and wetlands and the area has become a bird sanctuary.
