São Lourenço da Serra, located in the state of São Paulo, stands out for its natural and cultural richness, offering visitors a unique and authentic experience. Here are some highlights about this charming city, known for the environmental diversity of the remnants of the Atlantic Forest.
**HISTORY:**
The history of São Lourenço da Serra begins in the 18th century, during the colonial era of Brazil and the bandeiras movement. In 1562, respectively, the posts of Embu and Itapecerica were installed in the region, indicating that this area was an indigenous place with good and diverse land.
Over time, the two original farms transformed into a small village initially called "Vilarejo dos Borbas." Later, its name was changed to Bairro de São Lourenço da Serra. At that time, there was already a road coming from Itapecerica, passing through the hamlet, and continuing to Juquitiba. São Lourenço was characterized by dirt roads filled with ox carts, troops, and muleteers seeking rest and supplies to continue their journeys.
From 1900 onward, the neighborhood received new inhabitants, developed, and established its own commercial activity. The result of this territorial expansion of economic development, with the exploitation of metals and other activities, led to the creation of the district of São Lourenço da Serra on December 30, 1953, detached from the district seat and the districts of Embu-Guaçu and Juquitiba of the municipality of Itapecerica da Serra. Only on December 30, 1991, did it acquire political and administrative autonomy.
