Our lovingly restored farmhouse has been in the family for almost 100 years. It is tranquil and unique and you will enjoy the magical ambience of the house and garden. There are three bedrooms, the main bedroom with a queen size bed, one double bed, and one with twin beds. The bathroom has a slipper bath to relax and unwind in as well as a power shower. The country kitchen is fully equipped with all modern appliances. There is a wood and turf burning range which you can cook on also. Our home has been lovingly restored while maintaining its original charm and character. I enjoy gardening and we have a walled kitchen garden with raised vegetable beds. We have planted plenty of vegetables and you are welcome to enjoy all the produce and salad in season. We also have hens and you can enjoy fresh eggs for your breakfast (don't worry, you won't have to clean them out) . We have fruit bushes and fruit trees also. Whatever is ripe is yours to enjoy. Our hens have gone to stay with their cousins for the winter! No eggs today.
Ellen was a great host, the house was beautiful and we had everything we needed and more for our stay. We enjoyed the beautiful colourful gardens. Ellen was very responsive from booking to check out messages. It was lovely to meet her in person at check in. Would highly recommend Ellen's home away from home for a very relaxing few days in Kerry near the sea. Will definitely be back.
Lovely well equipped country cottage a short drive from the village. Fresh eggs every day from the hens in the garden. Highly recommend.
The village of Ballyheigue is a stones throw away or 2.5 miles. There is a 9 hole golf course in the castle grounds and you can walk to Banna beach along the 11 stunningly beautiful sandy miles.
Golf:
This part of Ireland is home to a peerless collection of golf courses. No visit to this part of Ireland is complete without playing the world-famous Old Course at Ballybunion. It is one of the jewels of Irish links golf, and although it may not be as long as some of the modern championship courses, it remains an unforgettable experience. Ballybunion is only 25 km from our home.
Try Tralee and Dingle also. Tralee is superb. This gem, designed by Arnie himself, has been rightly described as 'being created by God'. The views and the setting of the course are simply out-of-this-world and it is also only a short drive from our house.
The oldest course in Kerry is Dooks, a picturesque links that looks out over Dingle Bay. Nearby Kerries and Castlegregory are also worthy of consideration.
The town of Tralee, famous for the International Rose of Tralee festival is a 20- minute drive. Picturesque Killarney is one hour away.
Listowel, famous for its Writers Week is also a 20-minute drive away. As a writer, if you are looking for peace, quiet and a lack of distractions other than what nature has intended, St Bridget’s is perfect for your creative brilliance to pour forth. As a writers retreat our home will provide you with an air of solace, comfort and warmth. All you have to think about is your writing.
South Kerry, just over an hour away, has been named the first Gold-tier Dark Sky Reserve in the Northern Hemisphere by US based International Dark Sky Association.
Public transport will take you to Tralee, either by train or bus. You would need a car or a taxi to get to our home.
