If you're looking for a calm, comfortable, casual experience, this is it! How about linens fresh off the clothesline or pick organic berries for your morning smoothie? You’ll love that you can walk to get groceries, beer, liquor, coffee or a pizza. The blue waters have a relaxing effect encouraging more talking, less texting... more swimming, less car pooling! Sleep with the windows open, pitch a tent in the yard for the kids, or cook up some S'mores on an open fire. My place is a large 1900 ft2 (176 m2) house with a cottage vibe, but all the comforts of home. Located in a hidden neighborhood you will think you are in a resort destination. Enjoy a morning coffee on the dock, or practice yoga in the boathouse during a rain shower. If you're here for work, almost everything in Sarnia, including "the valley" is an easy 15 minute drive away. If you're here to visit family, you will want to bring them to "the cottage!" All the seasons are beautiful, but summer is the best with access to the water, and glorious sunsets over the clear, blue river.

Maria was a wonderful host! Maria's Cottage was just perfect for our ladies weekend away! Right on the water, with a little side area for shallower swimming. The cottage was fully stocked with everything you could possibly need and more! There is not one thing that we did not enjoy about our stay and we hope to be able to return next year!
We had a great trip to Maria’s (6 adults 3 1yr olds), the house offers plenty of seating inside and out with enough common area to comfortably fit multiple families. The outdoor area offers lots of shade from both a covered patio and large trees, shallow swimming area has a nice sandy bottom with some protection from waves. A few things to note there is a tenant on the property (separate building) and the dock is shared with him. We only saw him briefly during our stay. One of the queen beds listed is an air mattress rather than an actual bed/mattress. Overall we had a great time and would recommend Maria’s house to anyone looking to visit the area!
Maria’s place was extremely comfy and came with a fantastic view. Just what we needed for a family vacation. The rooms were great sizes and having two full baths was great! Would definitely come back!

Maria’s place is a perfect getaway. Beautiful right on the river, awesome house to fit a big family or families. Well stocked and Maria is quick to answer any questions you have. Definitely recommend and will be going back next year!

Corunna is a small community south of the larger city of Sarnia. The little town was originally mapped out to become the capital of Canada (true story). The village is nestled on the banks of the St. Clair River which is part of the Great Lakes. My family has lived in this neighborhood for 3 generations, and almost everyone in the family owns a boat!
If you search the internet for Astronaut Chris Hadfield and Cottage Life magazine, the cover photo was taken just across from my place!
The community is an easy 1 hour drive to Detroit, Michigan and about 3 hours to Toronto, Ontario. You will need a passport to cross into Michigan.
Public transportation is hard to come by in St. Clair Township, so you will need a car to get to my place. We do have a train station and small airport in Sarnia. For more distant travel, we use airports in either Detroit (1.5 hr drive) or London, Ontario (1.5 hr drive) or Toronto (3 hr drive).

I guess my personal motto is.. No regrets in life! Well, ok maybe I do have one regret only, and that is that I haven't kept in touch with all of the fantastic people I've met during my lifetime. My father died at a young age, and the take away from that was to go ahead and do the things you want to do, as soon as you are able. That approach has allowed me to see the world and experience many unique adventures. I've jumped out of a plane and off a bridge, hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back, and spent time with my rock and roll idol! I've worked as a DJ, limousine driver, and on a television show. Everyone I've met has their own story, and a person can discover so much, just by listening to others. I also believe the best way to truly experience travel is to stay with a local, which is one reason I host. I look forward to meeting many more new people and hearing their stories, both as a host and as a guest.
