Heated by a wood burner, the lounge/diner shares an impressive brick archway with the well-equipped kitchen. These are perfect spaces for the endless patter of paws. Dog-friendly Cheddar Gorge (23 miles) is one of Britain’s most spectacular prehistoric natural wonders, with breathtaking cliffs and dreamlike subterranean caverns that will blow human and canine minds. Take a trip on the West Somerset Railway from Bishops Lydeard (10 miles); dog’s get their own £2 ticket! In Taunton (11 miles), visit the Plough Inn for some doggy treats and the marvellous Museum of Somerset. Let your furry friend run free at Berrow and Brean beaches (both under 19 miles) near Burnham-on-Sea.
