WHAT I LOVE ABOUT BAYSWATER
You could nearly throw a stone across the harbour to the CBD.
It’s a safe place to unwind for evening walks around the peninsula. At night, Bayswater Marina reflects the central city lights over the harbour - the best view in town! People hoard to this place during fireworks performances for the spectacular skyline view.
Bayswater is an old settlement on the Devonport Peninsula, established long before the Auckland Harbour Bridge crossing was built in 1961. While there were promises of significant commercial and hospitality developments at the nearby marina, 20 years later they are yet to be manifested, which has meant Bayswater continues to retain its serenity. You won't find a place quite like this in Auckland.
NEARBY
Takapuna is 10 minutes away for top restaurants on the recently redeveloped Strand, with a backdrop of the dormant volcano Rangitoto Island in Auckland's island packed Hauraki Gulf.
The other direction is Devonport, also 10 minutes from home, the historical hub of Auckland's North Shore - with the old Victoria Theatre, the naval base and defence areas from World War II, along with galleries and cafes.
Explore nearby beaches on the Hauraki Gulf and the islands beyond.
Private vehicle from Auckland Airport to Bayswater is 35 minutes offpeak or 60 min. during peak traffic.
HOW TO GET AROUND ONCE YOU ARRIVE:
> FERRY: 10 minute walk
> BUS: The bus stop is just 50 metres from our home. Buses run every 30 - 60 minutes from early morning to late evening to Takapuna (20-25 minute ride) or the city.
For further afield, there are connections to the Northern Express (NEX) bus at Akoranga Station if going Northbound towards Albany and beyond.
> DRIVE: During off-peak traffic, it's only a 10 minute drive time to Auckland Harbour Bridge and North/Southbound motorway. During peak hours, allow 20 minutes.
自我介绍
As your vibrant kiwi host in Bayswater, I provide a retreat from the city, just 20 minutes from downtown Auckland. My home is a little slice of Europe and the subtropics. HOW I SOCIALISE: I'm half Croatian! One of my favourite things is a wine to share with fun conversation to match. When out and about, I like to support our many talented kiwi bands at our Auckland music venues, or just connect with native bush and beaches. MY FAMILY: Our parents hosted people through Bed & Breakfast for 25 years - they embraced cultural diversity and travelled extensively. My son growing up met many of their guests, and their passion has passed naturally onto us, and to my twin Fiona in rural Cambridge - see her listing. As children they also journeyed us around Europe to reconnect with their heritage. WHERE I HAVE LIVED AND TRAVELLED: I lived in London in my late teens while on my "OE". More recently, highlights are Cyprus, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Greek Islands. And Spain and Portugal followed a friend's wedding in Serbia a year before the pandemic. Call me biased but my favourite travel destination is still Croatia; with its magical coastline, where their market vegetables are out of this world! I look forward to your stay here in a safe space, and sharing your experiences and travel stories.
