Like Locorotondo, Ostuni has a commanding position, its maze of tightly packed streets twisting around a dramatic 15th-century cathedral encircled by medieval ramparts. In recent years it has become devilishly chic and has the best after dark scene in the district. Ostuni is known as the White City for the colouring of its houses in caustic limestone, making them visible from afar. The historical centre of Ostuni is one of the most beautiful in Italy and it is known all over the world for its most original architecture.
