自我介绍

My wife Jeri and I are newly retired; we live in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. We love the beauty and peace and quiet of the mountains. I have been backpacking, climbing and skiing in the Sierras for most of my life. Now Jeri and I hike and kayak a lot in the area. We spend a large amount of our newly acquired free time reading the 1000+ books we have been collecting over the years --- Jeri and I both love reading history, historical fiction and classic fiction; I also read a lot of science fiction, selected contemporary novels, cosmology and quantum physics popularizations, and, lately, Scandinavian mystery novels. We also spend much time listening to our extensive music collection: jazz, blues, 60s/70s rock, Baroque-Classical-Romantic, Americana and international folk, Bob Dylan. We really enjoy a wide variety of international cuisine and, consequently, we both love to cook. We recently remodeled our kitchen and are enjoying trying out new international recipes in our beautiful, new space. In addition, I have been creating a woodworking shop in my garage for years in anticipation of retirement. I’m now developing the woodworking skills to design and build furniture. I should also confess how much we love spending time with our children and grandchildren. In April 2013 Jeri and I embarked on a cruise ship in Miami to cross the Atlantic heading for the Canary Islands, Barcelona, Toulon, Livorno and ending in Civitavecchia/Rome. We then travelled by train to Venice, Munich, Paris and London. Finally, we took another cruise ship from Southampton, UK to New York where we flew back to California. I lived and worked in Munich for 2+ years (1982 to 1984) and had the opportunity to travel all over Western Europe. Jeri had never been to Europe and I had always wanted to take her there. She loved the wonderful people and places and cultures just as I did. I have also spent a year in Vietnam and sailed the Saronic Gulf in Greece for 2+ weeks some years ago. We take frequent trips to Mexico. We used Airbnb on our Europe trip both because we wanted to reduce our travel costs and because we wanted to interact with local people in the places we visited. It worked out beautifully. We are both easy-going people and are easy to get along with. When we schedule lodging at your home, please state honestly and clearly what we can expect, beyond the description in your Airbnb posting. We do not expect hotel-like accommodations, we just want to know what to expect. Jeri and I are not fluent in any language other than English; however, I can read, understand and speak Spanish, French and German a little bit.
