Welcome to to our home, a small inhabited island that located about 32 miles from Male' City. The island has a small population of about 490 locals of which 40 -50% lives on the island. The rest are the working population that work around the resorts and boats that operate in Vaavu Atoll.
The island attracts tourists for their stop over's or local excursions providing the real Maldivian experience. The locally known "Langiri" a traditional dance with drums and thaara are some attractions offered during tourist visits.
Famous for the abundance of fish life, Vaavu Atoll is considered as 1 of 2 atolls that provides the best conditions for fish life to spawn and multiply in huge numbers. The naturally formed atoll creates a safe haven for many types for reef fish to grow and mature with abundance of bait fish that is available throughout the year.
Fishing in Vaavu has become one of main tourist attractions, especially for those seeking the thrill with big catches like GT's (Giant Travelley) that give you a real fight.
Reef fishing is considered as the main occupation for much of the locals living in Vaavu Atoll.
