The Beachfront Retreat is located on Tutere Street, the main beach road.
Waikanae Beach is a quiet, relaxed beach settlement with both permanent residence and holiday homes.
The beach is the main attraction of Waikanae. The Waikanae Boating Club is located 400m from our accomodation, just a few minutes walk away.
Waikanae is most known for its beautiful beach. It's is also known for it's many walking/running/cycling tracks. Walks on the beach, along the river, around the lagoon or in the stunning regional overlooking the Kapiti Coast. It is a haven for wild life; renowned for its birdlife, nature reserve and estuary.
There is plenty to do in Waikanae, with cafés and restaurants, playgrounds and parks. Tennis courts, golf club and more. The beach itself is popular with swimmers, kite surfers, horse riders, and dog walkers.
The Kapiti coast known for its art scene with the Mahara Gallery, and many others. In November is the Kapiti Arts Trail. On offer for gardeners is the Waikanae Lions Garden Tour and the Ray White Super Garden Trail. The Ruth Pretty Cooking school is just up the Road in Te Horo.
Waikanae is renowned for its artisan bakers and fine food on. On Saturday's Waikanae hosts The Community Framers Market on Park Road where you can buy delicious produce, an excellent coffee and locally produced oils, honeys, cheeses and more. Also on offer are many stalls selling plants, arts/crafts, books and bric-a-brac.
The Kapiti coast is famous for its sunsets and whether it be summer or winter you can enjoy the sunset from the deck at the Beachfront Retreat. To the south you see the Marlborough Sounds, directly in front of the accomodation is a view of Kapiti Island and to the North Mt Taranaki.
If you are interested in discovering Kapiti Island you can book a trip to the Island where you will be hosted by Department of Conservation. The walk to the summit of Kapiti island is spectacular.

Waikanae Beach has direct access off state highway 1 and is very accessible from both the north or the south.
From the off ramp of SH1 it is less than a 3 minute drive to the beach.
The beach has fine compact sand so is perfect for walking, running or biking.
Waikane Beach shops are a 5 min walk or 1 min drive.
Waikanae Village and the nearby town of Paraparaumu are both the same distance, 7mins drive by car.
Raumati village is 12 minutes drive.
Wellington is 40-45 minutes drive.
The Hutt Valley 40 minutes.
Palmerston North is 1 hour 20 minutes.
Right outside the Beachfront Retreat on Tutere Street is a bus stop with buses to both Waikanae Village and also Paraparaumu train stations where there is a service to Wellington.
