Whitley Bay is home to an array of local shops, bars and restaurants, clothing boutiques, cafes and book shops as well as a local butchers, several bakeries and small supermarkets,. It also has an array of indoor things to do if the weather isnt great.
Local Shops
There is a co-op 5 minutes walk from the property as well as a large Sainsbury's supermarket about 6 minutes drive away in one direction and a Morrisons in the other. There are an array of local butchers, bakers , a wonderful green grocers and several small local grocery stores in Whitley Bay town centre.
Places to eat and drink
I highly recommend sampling some of the town's local restaurants and bars. The high street is packed with the latest trend of micro bars including brew bars. Below which are some of my favourites eateries but here's two of the best.
- Ahar - literally 200 yards round the corner - one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever eaten in (they do takeaway as well)
- Riley's Fish Shack - 8 mins drive. Sat on King Edwards Bay with views across the water this is a modern "traditional' fish shack serving local fish depending on the catch of the day as well as a variety of standard favourites like surf and turf. you can sit inside or on a veranda.. or book beach chairs and a firepit. Again good cocktails and wine list (they also do collection takeaways)

FISH AND CHIPS!!!
I've added this as a separate line because it is clearly so important. There are two fish'n'chip shop 3 minutes walk down towards the sea, they are OK, but variable depending on the staff and gets huge queues on any sunny day being so close to the beach.
Three alternatives:
- Arcade Fish Restaurant in the town centre (3 min drive, 9 min walk) is great, and very well loved by the locals. Can phone in an order. their "Large" fish is HUGE
- Fishermans Bay along the front towards Tynmouth (3 min drive, 10 min walk) is excellent. Gets very busy so may be worth phoning in order
- The Harbour View - Seaton Sluice (8 mins drive) is the best off the best. Definitely worth a visit, again can call in an order. Int you are walkers then you can walk along the coast path to Seaton Sluice, or via the track ways and back along the coast via St Mary's. There are several really nice pubs in Seaton Sluice but the best is the Delaval Arms 2 mins from the Coast Path in Old Hartley. Walk to Seaton Sluice, sit on the cliff top with your fish and chips and stop in for a pint on the way home.. divine evening
Local Attractions
This busy seaside town has many attractions fit for families and friends. Water sport hire and lessons, Sealife aquariums, mini golf, football golf, a wide selection of blue flag beaches, Tynemouth Priory and St Mary’s Light house with its seal colony just to name a few. It also has an excellent Playhouse hosting many acts and shows, and a wonderful little cinema. Here's a list of some of local attractions from Tripadvisor:

Getting around this area is easy. There are great bus links throughout the coastal region. Your local bus stop is within walking distance from the property and will also provides access to Newcastle City Centre.
Our Metro system is very reliable and provides quick access to Tynemouth, Cullercoats and Whitley Bay as well as Newcastle Central station and Newcastle Airport.
If you are arriving by car there is one space available to park for free on the premises and a free car park 200 yards down the back lane. Road links are great in the area with plenty car parks in the local towns and villages in the area.
